“W-what are you doing.” She starts to try and pull her wrist away.
“Don’t worry I’m not going to hurt you.” Girls they always have to show up at the wrong time and then they get upset. This is why I hate them passionately.
I drag her outside to the giant front lawn of the school. “Look I’m sorry you heard that but I’m not going to lie and say it’s not true. This whole community service thing is ruining my dream.”
“Well m-maybe if you didn’t get in so many fights you wouldn’t have to do c-community service.” I can’t believe this girl. Can she really say this to me. Shouldn’t she be crying some more? But then again she probably just got enough courage to confront me face to face. If she wasn’t a girl, I would have punched her without thinking twice.
“You don’t know what you’re talking about so stay out of it.” She flinches like I had slapped her across the face. “I’m being a good boy and I’m actually going to do the work, but it doesn’t mean it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever experienced.”
After a few seconds she starts to laugh. She laughs a loud annoying laugh unlike I’ve heard any girl laugh before. I cringe at the sound. I don’t get the joke but at least she’s not crying any more.
“If you think this is the w-worst thing ever then you don’t get out very much.” She continues to laugh like this is the funniest thing in the world.
“What are you talking about?” I question getting very annoyed with the whole situation. I brought her out here to get her to stop crying and now she’s laughing at me. I'm embarrassed.
“Don’t worry about it.” She says. It takes me a minute and I realize she said a sentence without stuttering. It’s a Christmas miracle that came a little late. “I’m fine now. Don’t w-worry I won’t s-say anything.” I take that Christmas miracle back.
She walks back towards the building and I just stand there watching her. Girls, I will never be able to understand them. One minute she’s crying and the next minute she’s laughing her head off. All girls must be bipolar, but I can kinda see why people call her the cutest girl in school. Her smile really is pretty adorable, someone should give her the tip not to laugh that much though.
What am I thinking. I shake my head to clear it of the horrible thought. I look at the time on my phone and see I’m already late for class. I already missed half the day so I turn towards the gate and start to walk towards my favorite internet cafe.
In a few minutes I reach the cafe and pick a seat in front of the computer farthest from the door. I pull a flash drive out of my bag and plug it in. When I pull up my files I click the folder labeled songs. Recently I’ve finished writing a few songs and I’ve been wanting to work on the rap to go with them. I plug my headphones into the computer and pull out a notepad that I keep all my lyrics in. I play the music and my pen starts to move across the paper.
After I finish writing the lyrics to my song I look at the clock and realize I’ve been here for a couple hours. I log out of everything and put my notepad back in my bag. When I start to stand up I realize someone’s sitting beside me staring at me. I look up at their face and realize it’s my sunbaenim Kim Seokjin. He graduated last year and is trying to become an actor. When we used to be in school together he would always try to keep me out of trouble and now that he’s graduated he’s become more of my brother than anything else, well until I misbehave. Then he turns into more of a nagging mother to be honest.
“Hyung, how long have you been there,” I ask worried that he saw the lyrics I was just writing.
He looks at me for a second and I realize there is a bruise on my jaw from my fight earlier. “Long enough to realize you skipped school.” he looks at me and I feel like I need to apologize.
“Well there’s no point in staying for only half the day.” I complain to him and he just raises one eyebrow at me.
“I’m not going to ask. Just tell me if I should be looking out for the cops.” I glare at him in response, hoping he would take back his work. He just holds up his hands in surrender. “Fine, fine. But you know, you really should behave more in school.”
I sigh, roll my eyes like I always do when someone tells me to behave, and start to get up when my phone vibrates in my pocket. I pull it out and see Minji calling me. I groan and answer the phone.
“What.” I say into the phone.
“I-it’s a Thursday.” she says simply.
It takes me a minute and then I realize she means I’m suppose to do community service today. “ I just got this punishment a few hours ago is it really necessary to start today!” I yell into the phone.
“Yes.” She must really not like to talk on the phone but at least she’s not stuttering.
I sigh. “Where do you want me to meet you?”
“The animal shelter that’s closest to the school.” She hangs up the phone before I even have time to give her a reply.
I shove my phone back into my pocket in frustration and say bye to Seokjin. When I step outside I look up at the sky and I know it’s going to rain later. Just another day in the life of me. I get to work with dogs all day and walk home in the rain. I start to walk towards the animal shelter.
After a few minutes I reach the animal shelter and Minji is standing outside waiting for me.
“What are we doing today anyway.” I say frustrated that I have to be here
“Whatever t-they tell us we need to do.” she says.
That annoying stutter! “Why do you stutter like that?” I ask out of frustration.
She looks at me in shock and I get ready to apologize when she replies. “ When I was little I g-got hit a lot by my d-dad and my after a while I started to s-stutter. My d-doctor said I was traumatized. I p-probably wouldn’t talk normal e-ever again.” She stops for a second. “I-it’s worse a-around guys b-because I’m always afraid they’ll h-hit me like m-my dad did.”
I just stare at her in awkward silence. I didn’t expect her to actually explain her problem to me. I’ve never had someone tell me about their past before. “I’m sorry.” I tell her. What else do you say after someone tells you something like that?
She just awkwardly nods her head and tells me we need to start working. When I go in the animal shelter I immediately stop. Standing there leaned against the wall is Namjoon. When he sees me he smirks. Great, not this idiot again. This was giving me a headache again.
“Yoongi, nice to see you. Looks like we’ll be working together today.” He smirks once more, making me want to punch him again, but all I do is groan and mentally roll my eyes in my head. He comes closer to me and leans next to my ear. “I’m not here to fight you. I’m here for Minji so don’t try to start anything.” I take a step back. What is he talking about? Here for Minji? He stands back up straight and smiles over at Minji.
