Several screens glowed in the dimly lit room. Each screen showed the live video from multiple CCTV camera's. In front of each screen, sat a worker. Their hands typing away on the key board or moving the camera using the joysticks.

"How far with the initialization? " A man wearing a grey uniform with three silver stars shining under the eerie glow of the lights, monitored each any very screen.

"Sir, it's almost complete" One of the worker answered.

"Are the levels working perfectly?" The man asked again

A minute of silence filled only with the clicking of keys and then another worker spoke up, "Sir, only the last level is yet incomplete"

The man growled, "How long till it is done?"

The worker visibly tensed at the man's tone. One of the them, a female worker gathered the courage to answer the man.

"Sir, the new architect... He's making last minute changes to the design" She answered

"Damn it!" The man slammed his fist on the nearby table making the other's flinch.

"Tell him that he should better be done by the end of this week" The man grumbled.

"Yes sir" The worker replied and quickly typed the notice to the architect.

The day came when the participants for The Game will be chosen. People started flocking in the city square.

Sixteen to thirty years old were herded together into roped areas marked off by their ages. The oldest being on the extreme right and the youngest being on the extreme left. Family members, neighbors, stranger almost every one line up within the perimeter.

The space got crowed and more claustrophobic as people arrived. The square was big but not big enough to accommodate the entire population. Those who couldn't fit in, would go back home and watch the live telecast.

Jimin looked at the line next to his, trying to look for Hoseok. He found the brunet standing fairly behind him. The brunet noticed Jimin looking for him and smiled brightly, throwing a thumbs up sign. Jimin then tried to look for his neighbor. The last time Jimin saw him was last week. After that there no interactions between them.

Jimin thought that he would fine Yoongi somewhere at the last of the line meant for 20 years old, since the elder's name started with 'Y'. However, the silver-head was no where to be seen.

Jimin bit his lips, fearing that the elder was trying to escape this. But did he not know that there is no way to escape the choosing. All the citizen, who are eligible for being chosen are compelled to be present during the time of Choosing.

If a chosen person was absent then severe punishments were meted out. The punishments could be anything from public humiliation to death penalty.

Jimin shook the thoughts from his head. Sure, Yoongi was no one to Jimin but he still felt bad and hoped that the elder won't get chosen. But there was no telling for sure. The participants are chosen based purely on luck.

Just as the clock struck noon, the representative of the Creator stepped up on podium. He was an old man, wrinkled but still held confidence in the way he walked. His eyes shone like two grey stones and his posture told that he was a man of importance.

He started his speech, praising the Games. The entertainment and the honor it brought. Then onwards, he recited the name of each in every winner so far. The province where Jimin lived, they had three Winners so far. However, those people, were the winner from the one of the earliest matches of The Games. Since then, the Games had changed a lot. The  bar for intensity and the complexity were set up high

But the current architect promised a game like never before. A game which will etch its way in the book of history. He also promised that no other Games will ever be able to compete against the one he has created.

Jimin took a quick glance to Hoseok behind, who was talking one of the other people standing around him. He turned his attention back to the stage. He started to wonder what might be happening at the Central Province right now.

Jimin watched as one of the helpers came with a huge glass bowl in his hand. It had several folded chits in them. And Jimin wondered which one held his name. The Representative smiled and dug his hand inside the mount of chits. After fishing around for a while, he pulled out two chits.

As soon as the chits were in view, silence fell upon the square. The crowd drew in collective breath.

The Representative, smoothed the paper out and neared the mic.

Clearing his throat he called out the names.

"Park Jimin and Jung Hoseok"
