Bria’s POV
Scared.
A word that i never used to describe myself…
Until now that is.
Marcus Grimmie is the first person ever to make me wet my pants. We just arrived at the hospital garden far away from where Christina’s room is and someone is yet to utter a single word.
I went to sit at the bench as i was feeling a bit weak and its not from blood loss. Let’s just say, i can’t find my balls anywhere and now i’m too afraid to even breathe even if Sir Marcus has his back to me. Yes i decided to call him Sir Marcus and that’s what i’ll call him from here onwards.
I breathed slowly and silently for a few times and got my game face on.
‘You can do this!’
When Sir Marcus suddenly turned around and faced me.
‘No shit you can’t do this!’
“I know about you and Christina.” His deep voice disturbing the silence at the garden.
I looked at him slowly.
“I don’t know everything obviously since i only get to keep tabs on her when i get to talk to her friends and see her at home. But here’s what i know.” He trailed off as he stepped closer to the bench i’m sitting at.
“She met you the first day on her job at The Voice. I remember when she came home that day she looked like she had seen a ghost but i don’t think she noticed that she was smiling. Her mood was so weird that day i thought my sister finally snapped or something.” He continued as he sat beside me on the other side of the bench.
I just kept on looking in front of us remembering that night when i one-second kissed her under that street light. It was not the best place for any first kiss but somehow…it was perfect. I didn’t know how but suddenly, there was a small smile that appeared on my face while i was down memory lane.
‘Why the hell am i smiling Bria Kelly this is not the best time to smile Christina’s brother might get the wrong idea!’
“The next time she came home though, she looked like she won a million bucks. That greeting she gave us the next morning creeped me out. I almost got kissed on the cheek for crying out loud.”
I looked to Christina’s brother and he was now sporting a disgusted looked on his face causing my smile to grow bigger, trying not to chuckle.
‘Maybe he’s not such a scary guy after all.’ I thought to myself as i breathed out.
“But the next night, she didn’t come home at all.”
Maybe I spoke too soon.
The atmosphere turned thick fast and soon i found myself unable to breathe steady again. The seriousness of Christina’s brother’s voice dispelled all sense of relaxation from my body. The looked on his face was nowhere near happy.
“After making sure she was going to be okay, i called Eric to ask what has been happening to my sister the past days and he gave me the answers i needed.” He continued.
I didn’t know who this Eric is but my guess was he’s the staff that i always see with Christina. Oh god i am so screwed. I probably won’t see tomorrow.
“Listen, Bria.” Sir Marcus said as he turned to look at me.
I looked at him too and i could just see how much care he had for his sister from his eyes.
“I know how people like you do things.” He spoke, earning a confused look from me.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Before there was this guy. He was one of my friends and it was obvious he got a thing for Christina. I knew he was a player but i didn’t do anything about it. I watched as he did what he always do to other girls to make them fall for him to Christina and i saw the happiness and hope in my sister’s eyes build up every single day.” He trailed off again but this time, his eyes held the guilt that mine did earlier outside Christina’s room.
“Then one day he got tired of all the romantic stuffs and wanted the reward he would always get. But Christina wouldn’t even let him kiss her. The next day, He got a girlfriend and paraded her in school right in front of Christina making her feel like garbage.”
I could hear the anger in his voice as he was telling me this. I had no idea.
“I can’t explain how broken Christina was. How she lost all confidence she had in herself. How she became the laughing stock of everyone for being a fool. What’s worse is i knew this could happen but i didn’t do anything. But i won’t make the same mistake again, Kelly.”
Sir Marcus stood up and turned to me. Looking at me with a cold gaze.
I looked at him. Knowing what that gaze meant. Knowing what he wanted me to do.
“Just keep your distance. That’s all i’m asking.”
With that, Sir Marcus passed by the bench back to where the entrance was. I could here pebbles crunching as he stepped on each one. Furthering and furthering away from me.
I knew i was exactly what he described. I was known for it back home. It was the reason why that girl appeared that day when i was on my way to the restaurant where Usher said he, the others and Christina would be.
I wanted to leave Smithfield for a lot of reasons. It was not just because of the competition.
One was because i wanted to change. I did worse than break hearts. I did much worse.
I knew that wasn’t the life for me that’s why i wanted to leave. The Voice came just the right time and i grabbed it the first chance i got. It was the way out.
Then i met Christina.
But what happened between us was not from habit. For the first time i felt that things were not in my control. That i don’t control what will happen next. Everything was so unpredictable that everything was so new to me. Like i was learning everything from the start.
With her it became different.
She was different.
“I’m different.” I said as i came to realisation.
I heard the footsteps stop for a moment before continuing again.
I knew Christina’s brother heard it. Clearly.
I pushed myself up with my crutches, whispering to the air.
“I’m different, Christina.”
/*Short one but 2nd update in a day! Holla! xD
and SUPER SNEAK PEEK for Chapter 14 ;) !
In her room, Christina had her eyes closed. Opening from time to time where one could see her thinking or rather remembering something. Emotion pouring out of her eyes as she softly sung every lyric of the song.
“Cause there’ll be no sunlight,
If i lose you baby.”
“Where is that voice coming from?” Adam thought as he shut his car door and walked to the doorstep while looking up, trying to figure out where that beautiful sound was.
