I sighed and stared at the papers that we had on the table. We were in Doudge's condo, as usual. Kasama ko sina Prosecutor Alvedrez, Doudge, at Hellion. Wala si Rhaia at may inaasikaso. Merian's on video call though.
"As much as I want to say that this case is in our side, I don't want to conclude this early. I'm sure they will be coming up with arguments to debunk Caleiah's statements," Prosecutor Alvedrez said.
My forehead creased.
"But the DNA and medico legal are strong evidences," I said. She shrugged.
"I know. But other than that, wala tayong ibang ebidensya. At least concrete evidence. We don't even have a picture of the crime scene. I am a hundred percent sure that they will justify the evidence and they will debunk Caleiah's testimony. So we need to be extra cautious. Wag tayong pakampante. Hangga't walang decision, the case can turn the other way around."
Hindi kami sumagot. She's right though. Though hindi ko alam kung paano nila ide-debunk ang DNA at medico legal na iyon. That was still dated two years ago. Iyon palang, pasok na ang rape through carnal knowledge and sexual assault.
"It would be better to have a witness to the crime. If we can't have cctv or other concrete evidences, a credible witness will do," Prosec. Alvedrez continued. Tumango si Doudge.
"CCTV footage is for sure erased already. Lugar nila iyon. Alam nila ang pasikot-sikot."
"Well, I can send my men to go back to the place." Si Hellion.
"Although based on our previous visit, it was a private property. Hindi accessible sa lahat. Other than the suspects and Caleiah, maaaring walang ibang tao ang naroon sa lugar na iyon," dagdag niya.
Bumuntong-hininga ako. It was a private place. I've been there. Sigurado rin akong pinuno na nila ng security guards iyon. Ang daya. For sure kung meron mang mahihita pa roon, pabor sa kanila iyon. Mas nauna sila, e. Nalinis na nila yun two years ago. That's even fucked up. Nakakainis nakakagalit.
"We can still try," Hellion said. Hindi nagsalita sina Doudge.
Sandali kaming natahimik.
"Cai."
Bahagya akong napapitlag nang marinig si Merian.
"Huh?"
Kinunutan niya ako ng noo.
"You okay?" she asked.
Tipid na ngumiti lang ako at tumango. I sighed again. They continued talking about possible evidences and arguments. Tahimik na nakikinig lang ako.
Kami-kami lang ang nandito dahil nasa kwarto niya si Cali. I sighed and rested my back on the backrest of the couch. Ipinikit ko ang aking mga mata. Ilang sandali pa at naramdaman kong may nakatingin sa akin.
Dumilat ako at nilingon ang bandang gilid ko.
"What?" I asked Doudge.
He shruged and sighed.
"Ikaw, anong problema?" balik niya.
Hindi ako agad nakapagsalita. Nag-iwas ako ng tingin.
"Wala."
"Tss. Alam kong meron."
Umirap ako.
"How sure are you naman?" takang tanong ko.
He shrugged again.
"Des was asking me about you which is odd. I mean, why the hell would he asked me about his girlfriend." He put emphasis on the phrase 'his girlfriend'. Bumuntong-hininga ako.
