CARRIE HAD AWOKEN THE NEXT morning with a terrible headache. At first she assumed it was because she had slept strangely on her pillow that night but when she took in her surroundings, she realized she wasn't in her room.

A sudden flood of panic spread throughout her whole body before she recognized where she was sleeping. She glanced around the Wheeler basement and saw Eleven staring at her from the fort. When Carrie's ocean blue met El's chocolate brown ones, the latter quickly looked down at her blankets.

The Holland girl pulled her blanket off of her before standing up. She stretched her arms up, allowing the blood flow to the muscles to increase and the fluids that built up during sleep to travel back to where it belongs in her body. She rolled her head around to try and alleviate the pain in her neck, but it only made it worse.

Her feet padded across the floor silently before she stopped in front of El's tent. She sat down beside it with her legs crossed and her hands in her lap. Carrie looked over at Eleven who was intently avoiding the redhead's gaze.

"Hi," Carrie greeted softly with a kind smile. El glanced up at her before quickly moving her attention back to her hands that were fiddling with the blankets.

"Hi," she responded back in her soft voice that always seemed unsure of the words that were coming out of her mouth. Carrie then realized that she had nothing to say after that, so the two just sat quietly in the tent together before Mike came down the stairs a few minutes later.

"Oh, you're awake," he stated when he saw that she wasn't on the couch. "Um, well, my mom told me to wake you up for school. She's making breakfast. She also said that you could borrow some of Nancy's clothes for school today."

"Okay. Thanks, Mike," she smiled before standing up. She gently waved at Eleven before Carrie and the Wheeler boy went upstairs. She said 'good morning' to Karen who was cooking breakfast before making her way over to the youngest Wheeler. She tickled Holly's neck, causing the younger girl to squeal with joy.

"Good morning, Little Bean," Carrie greeted before she kissed the top of Holly's head and made her way up to Nancy's room while Mike stayed down to set the table—only because Karen told him to.
