Tsukishima and Yuki made a silent return to Karasuno a few days later. Things between the two were still quite awkward, despite the chat they had previously.
They sat together on the train back to school from Yukis house, Tsukishima sitting on the outside with his headphone in, and Yuki, forehead placed on the window watching her surrounding pass by.
Very rarely did they speak to eachother on the train, both of them exhausted and just wanting to stay quiet.
About an hour into the trip, the train came to a quick stop, allowing more passengers to board the train. Yuki looked to her right to see Tsukishima with his eyes closed, presumably sleeping. She then turned her attention to the opening door and watched a large flow of people of all ages walk through the doors and fill up the surrounding seats.
There were two seats opposite of the pair, facing them that were still empty, but the seats were being filled quickly so it wouldn't surprise the girl is someone ended up sitting across from them.
Just as she had this though, a boy, with blonde hair much like Tsukishima's stood at the end of their seats looking at the girl with confidence. She smiled up at him, thinking how he looks almost like Tsukishima, just slightly more rugged.
"Would you mind if I sat there?" He asked, pointing to the seat across from the girl.
She nodded and gestured towards the seat, letting the boy know that it was alright.
"Where are you headed?" Yuki asked as the boy got settled in his chair, placing his bag above the seats in the carriers.
"I'm headed to school actually." He replied, "I've recently transferred to Karasuno High school."
"No way!" She smiked exitedly, "That's where we go!" She said, referring to Tsukishima when she said "we".
"Oh cool." The boy nodded, "is that your boyfriend?" He said, pointing at the sleeping boy next to her with an eyebrow raised.
"Pfft." She rolled her eyes at the question, although, slightly blushing at the response, "I'd throw myself in a fire before I went out with this idiot." She laughed.
"I see" He chuckled in response, "What's your name then?"
"I'm Hayashi Yuki." She put her hand out, "and yours?"
"Okada Yuuma " He completed the handshake, holding the girls hand for longer than necessary.
Yuki looked up and met the other boys eyes, a bolt of electricity running through her body.
"So Okada-San, what year are you?"
"Second Year, Class 2" He smirked at her, "what about you?"
"O-Oh, I'm a first year." She said, worried that she was speaking too informally to her senpai.
"Hey, don't worry about that..." He reassured her, reaching across to her seat and grabbing her hand. She looked down at the hand on top of hers, it was surprisingly soft for a boys hand, and it was warm too. She looked up into his eyes, and her heart jumped when she found him staring back at her.
He released his hand and sat back in his chair, "well, Hayashi-San, I'm tired so I'm going to nap, but you have to promise to give me your number before we get off this train, okay?" The boy closed his eyes rested his head on the window.
"O-Okay..."
Yuki herself closed her eyes and rested her head on the window to her left. Her heart sped up as she thought about the boy sitting across from her. She didn't know why, considering she jsut met him, and he was a year older than her, but he was attractive, and confident and she felt very connected to him already.
She smiled to herself as she drifted off the sleep.
—
"Hayashi, wake up" Yuki felt a small tug on the hem of her shirt. She opened her eyes to Tsukishima to her right and her new friend across from her, still asleep.
"Are we there yet?" She asked the boy sitting next to her, getting uncomfortable in the chair.
"Almost." He deadpanned, "Who's that?" He pointed to the boy across from them.
"That's Okada-San, he goes to Karasuno too" she replied, "he's pretty cool."
"Okay." Tsukishima responded, putting his headphone back on his head and turning on her smartphone momentarily to press play.
Yuki scoffed at the boys bluntness and inability to continue a conversation.
"Hey!" She called, tapping the boy on his shoulder, giving him a confused look, "what's your issue?"
"I don't have an issue, Hayashi, I just don't want to talk right now." He glared, "If you want to talk to someone, wake up the new kid" he said gesturing to the boy sitting across from the two.
"So, what, you're jealous or something?" Hayashi asked, getting irritated, "I'm allowed to have other friends, you know."
"Shut up, I'm not jealous." He grimaced, pitting his headphones back on, "I said I don't want to talk right now."
"Whatever" the girl muttered under her breath, averting her attention once again to her passing surroundings as they approached their stop.
The three of them got out of their seats and began to exit the train, Yuki and Okada chatting and exchanging numbers, while Tsukishima walked in front of them, headphone glued to his ears.
"So, Hayashi-San, would you maybe like to go on a date sometime?" Okada asked Yuki right before they seperates from one another.
Tsukishima, who had been secretly listening to their conversation, took in a sharp breath and clentched his fists as he heard this question. He didn't know why, but he didn't think this was a good idea at all, but he couldn't say anything because Yuki would accuse him of being jealous again.
'Whatever..." he thought, turning his music back up only enough so he could still hear her response, 'she can do whatever she wants to do'
Yuki blushes at the bluntness and confidence of her new friend, "I'm not really one to go on dates, but we get along well so I'll say yes"
"Awesome, can't wait" he yells back at her as walks the other way.
Yuki wasn't sure what she just got herseld into, but she was excited. She liked how sweet and confident Okada was and she truly was excited to hang out with him.
"Really? A date with someone you just met?" Tsukishima scoffed at Yuki, snapping her out of her thoughts, "that's very unlike you, are you okay? Do you need to get checked by a doctor or something?"
"Shut up, Tsukishima" She punched him in the shoulder, "I really like him" she blushed
"You like him?" He glared at her in amazement, "you don't even know him, and you think he has no bad intentions with you?" He scoffed, getting angry at how naive Yuki was being.
"We talked a lot, and he seemed really genuine." Yuki defended, getting angry that her best friend wasn't supporting her in this, "You're jsut mad because I made another friend other than you"
"Whatever Yuki" he sighed, as they reached the doorway of her dorm room, "I'm going home, have fun with whatever his name is." And the boy turned around and walked the other way, leaving his headphone around his neck, expecting the girl to call him back.
She didn't.
Tsukishima felt the anger bubble inside of him, irritated that she won't believe him that Okada only had bad intentions. He could just tell...
Yuki, on the other hand, laid in her bed, smiling at her phone as she sent her first message to her new friend.
