As we make our way to the Phuture building, Namjoon bursts into conversation. I have to say, he seems a lot more down to earth than anyone I've ever met - that's actually not saying much considering I've only met about 5 or 6 people.
"You must be pretty intelligent to have escaped from the camp, are there any skills you think we should know about?"
"It wasn't intelligence or skill, I just used common sense." I continue to stare out of the slightly tinted windows.
"Can I get your name?"
"Ari," I glance over at him, "Short for Ariana."
"Well, I apologise that we had to meet in this way. If it was down to me I would let all of you live freely, what they're doing is an abomination of human rights. It disgusts me." He says. "I've ensured my entire team show no discrimination to you, we are very close - like a family."
"There are two on your team who previously came from a camp?"
"No, they were brought up in the Phuture facility, though they are of course similar to you by nature."
"What are they like?"
"Well, firstly there's Jimin, he can manipulate people into doing anything just with his eyes. His true personality; he's kind and caring but can be defensive of the team - quite aggressive at times."
"He sounds similar to me. With the eyes and everything..."
"It would seem that way, though we haven't yet been told about your capabilities."
"The other one, what's he like?"
"Taehyung. He can be extremely aggressive, but his voice coaxes people into some sort of trance. He almost slows down time and their reactions, it's pretty incredible to see in action." He smiles at me, dimples popping from his cheeks. "What about you, then, what can you do?"
"People can read my emotions through my eyes, that's why they change colour a lot. Kind of like a mood ring, I guess."
He nods.
"A change in eye colour is putting my guard down, weakness. But I'm good at sensing when something's going to happen, if I'm going the wrong route or doing the wrong thing. I can analyse any amount of space in a matter of milliseconds."
"That's incredible." He smiles.
"It's like everything slows down, I notice all the little things that are about to happen so I can have a quick response. And I remember what I've seen almost photographically."
"I have to say, that will be an immense benefit to our team."
"We're here." Mr. North says from the front passenger seat. I look out of the window at the vast complex surrounding us as the car pulls to a halt.
"You ready to go?" Namjoon asks.
"I guess so." I nod at him before my car door is opened and getting out I'm once again surrounded by ferocious guards.
"I apologise for the guards, ma'am, it's all for safety purposes, you see." Mr. North glances at me with sympathy. "Namjoon will escort you inside; I have other business to attend to. Farewell."
And with that he leaves in a hurry. So now I'm stranded with Namjoon and a gathering of 15 guards. That's quite a lot for a single person.
Namjoon looks over at me and gestures for me to follow him.
We head inside the giant building and we enter the centre of the complex. The ceiling is so high up, built up by floors and floors and more floors before you reach a large glass dome. Everything is shiny and metallic yet there are no security checks, only assistant desks. I assume the security checks were back when we entered the building but they skipped me through them.
"Welcome to the Phuture headquarters." Namjoon says as he turns to me, "This will be your new home."
I look around at the vast room I'm standing in. It's a lot cleaner and better looking than the camp I was in, and I doubt I'll be treated anywhere near as badly. I hear a shuffle of footsteps and turn to face whoever moved behind me.
"Hello, I'm Park Jimin, it's nice to meet you."
Well, he's not what I expected.
I was anticipating a tall, extremely smartly dressed man with dark gelled back hair and a smug face. Instead I'm greeted by a rather short man with luminous pink hair and soft features. His clothes are not smart; he's wearing an oversized black and white striped shirt, tight black skinny jeans and a black biker jacket covered in multicoloured stitching. And may I say he's extremely handsome (in a kind of cute way).
I look down and see his hand held out in front of me. I reach out and shake it. I don't want to smile, it would just be a sign of weakness. "Ariana, but you can just call me Ari."
He smiles softly at me before we release hands.
"Well then, Ari, we finally meet. And I see you've met Namjoon; the head of our squad."
"Team or unit, Jimin, squad sounds too cliché." Namjoon corrects before turning to me, "I'm afraid I have some other things to do so I'll leave you with Jimin. He'll take you to meet the other members of the team."
I nod and watch as he leaves briskly.
"This way," chirps Jimin before leading me out of one of the large doorways. With a quick motion of his hand all the guards that were previously surrounding us disappear. "These are the main rooms for briefings or preparation talks. We'll be meeting the others in one of them."
"Namjoon told me about you; you're like me aren't you?" I ask, glancing down at my bloody hands still bound in socks.
"Yes," he turns to smile at me as we continue to walk before looking down at my hands, "Ah, I should probably get someone to look at those. I think Jin might be able to help you."
I manage to keep up with his manic walking speed, who knew his little legs could go that fast? We soon reach the room and he holds open the door for me.
"Thank you." I enter the room and Jimin stands beside me as I observe the five men sitting in front of me. Since when were agents so handsome?
"Everyone, this is Ari. She's the one everyone's been talking about." Jimin motions at a chair for me to sit down next to a broad-shouldered brunette. "Would you mind looking at her hands, Jin?"
"Of course, and why don't we introduce ourselves?" The man beside me carefully removes my unique bandages and goes to collect a medical kit from elsewhere in the room.
"I'm Hoseok, I also go by Hobi, it's a pleasure to meet you." The man in front of me (who appears to be 98% cheekbones) smiles at me, his whole face lighting up. "I work behind the scenes doing the technological stuff. I'm normally talking to you through the earpiece, that's my job."
He glances over to the man next to him who seems unbothered by my presence.
"This is Yoongi, he's not too friendly to new people. He is good at combat and well, killing people, so he tackles everything with violence." Hoseok explains. He looks at the black haired boy on my side of the table. "Come on, Jungkook, introduce yourself."
I look round to the boy and see he's a little flushed, it's kind of cute, but by the soldering gaze he gives me I can tell he's not as soft as he seems.
"I'm Jungkook. I'm good with technology and physical combat." He looks at me, maintaining eye contact through his glassy gaze before looking at the man across from him. Damn. Let me say it again.
Damn.
"Hello, I'm Taehyung, you can call me Tae if you want. I am like you, I can control people, slow them down, but my physical combat is not so good." I don't think I listened to a word he just said, I was way too busy focusing on his face.
A smirk teases at the edge of his lips as he notices me admiring his features.
"And I'm Seokjin, otherwise known as Jin, I'm in charge of keeping everyone alive, I deal with the medical side of things." By now he's re-bandaged my hands and is putting his medical stuff away.
"Namjoon isn't here to speak for himself, but as leader he is in charge of us and gives us the main instructions." Jimin sits down near me. "As for me, well, Namjoon seems to have already told you about me. Welcome to the squad."
"Team, Jimin, team."
