it was very exciting to finally grab my fifth gym badge. Clay smirked at me in approval as he handed it to me, laughing to himself.

"well then, ya earned it... lemme tell you, you're gonna do great things...eh-"

"Camdyn..." i smiled down at the ground shyly.

"i see... well...i'm gonna call you Cam so i can always remember you!" he winked at me. "thanks for stopping by and giving me the pleasure to have such a remarkable battle!" he folded his arms over his western-style jacket that tightly fitted him.

my face began to heat up slightly at the words that escaped his lips. "th-thank you, but it's really all y-you!" i scratched the back of my neck sheepishly

Clay chuckled then came in closer. "right Cam, honey...you best get going, i heard there's gonna be a rocket of a storm tonight!"

"o-oh. yeah... i better leave then...well, thank you agai- EEEEE!" i was about to turn away until i was startled by a deafening banging noise coming from above the cave-like gym.

ever since i was a kid, i wasn't a fan of thunderstorms. the loud noises and bright flashes made me feel uneasy. even now, i still yelp at them like a baby.

Clay tutted for a moment. "darn. it's already here?" he waved his arms up in annoyance.

there was no way i was ever going to go anywhere near the entrance of the gym. i wanted to be as far away from the rainfall, wind and other extreme weather conditions i feared. the thought of walking out into the bad mix of weather was horrific.

my legs felt as if they were glued to the ground, not wanting to move. i stayed silent, theorising what i should do to escape the storm.

"well..." he sighed. "...Cam, i'm sorry for keeping you waiting. do ya want to stay with m-me until it passes?" he cleared his throat after his slight stammer

"YES...p-please." i glanced away, embarrassed from my desperate blurt out, my voice lowering.

"or i mean... you can always go back up if that's what you want, heh you don't have to stay down here with silly ol' Clay, i shouldn't-"

"no." i cut him off. "it's fine... i'll stay..."

his eyes widened, i assumed this caught him off guard a bit. "oh..." he paced back a few steps. "...here... you can sit, there... it's not much but you can at least lean on it... heh." Clay stepped to his right slightly and pointed at the ground, where a large emerald crystal was glistening, it was the main source of light in Clay's battlefield.

to be honest, the stiffness of my legs was wearing me out a lot. ever since i started my journey i never really did get a good sit down. life was too hectic now, i've been so motivated towards my goal of becoming champion, i never have just taken a step back.

"thank you." a warm smile appeared on my face as i weakly made my way over to the crystal. "it's b-been a while."

"just... take a good rest after that battle." he also shot me a warm smile, while i slumped down on the crystal, crashing onto the ground in a hot mess.

it was amazing. i was able to just slouch and do nothing. i was able to relax my muscles and close my eyes. i was able to breathe

i let out a huge sigh. "thanks again. i'm shattered."

"heh i can tell... do you... m-mind if i join ya?" i looked up to see Clay sheepishly smiling at me.

"of course... it's your gym!" i giggled

his face lit up instantly and he too, slumped down next to me.

"so... uh what's your plans after this?" he said, looking straight ahead. our shoulders brushed slightly and his company was warming.

"well, i'm gonna travel to Mistralton City, to challenge Skyla, next. my main goal is to complete the gym challenge and take on the elite four."

he chuckled slightly. "i knew that." i curiously turned my head to him, he also turned back staring into my E/C eyes, "i can see your determination and battle expertise... Cam, i can see you as the ch.. champion of Unova."

this made me gasp slightly. i've never gotten such a great complement. Clay also sounded as if he was being genuine and speaking from the heart

"r-really... that's... sweet." i turned back away, my face blushing

"no biggie. it's all facts, you're a wonderful gir-"

"GAHHHH!" my body trembled and i buried my face into my hands. i was so mesmerised by Clays comfort i forgot there was a storm outside. the sound of thunder startled me

suddenly, i felt a cloud of warmth over my body. an arm wrapped around my shoulder and another pulled me in slightly, into Clay. my body stiffened for a moment but adapted quickly as i felt less scared.

"shh..." he muttered. "here, don't worry, Cam." Clay whispered sympathetically. i felt myself rest my head on his torso and when i opened my eyes he was looking right back at me.

"s-sorry... i'm not good with th-thunderstorms..." i awkwardly explained, my face crimson.

"it's all good... i've gotta protect our future champion..." his voice was soothing.

before i could say anything else, i felt my shoulders relax and his company sent me into a slumber.
