chapter 21;; delicate wings
⊱ ━━━━.⋅ εïз ⋅.━━━━ ⊰

With music bursting from the speakers, Namjoon and Seokjin sat on either side of the portable barbecue. They were grilling sausages and onions (which nobody was a fan of except for Hoseok) to eat off paper plates they bought at the supermarket.

"Oh fuck me, your mum's a virgin," Namjoon loudly cried blowing on his hand as he flapped it around, "Shit, shit, shit!"

"Namjoon, why on Earth did you touch the fire?" Seokjin snapped, threatening to whack the older with the BBQ fork in his hand.

"I didn't see it!" Defended Namjoon, running indoors to run his hand under the water.

An awkward silence lingered between the boys until Namjoon was completely out of sight, when they all burst into laughter.

"Typical buffoon Joon," Seokjin mumbled under his breath between laughs.

Just as everyone recomposed themselves, a shriek of terror was heard in the distance. As they turned their heads, they saw Jungkook kicking his leg around wildly attempting to kick off a weed which was stuck to his leg.

Taehyung ran over, knowing the younger had a ridiculous fear of things touching his feet in the water. He tried to hide the grin on his face, but he couldn't. He laughed so much his cheeks were aching. It was an exhilarating feeling.

"Get here, idiot," He laughed, pulling it off and waving it in his face.

The younger suddenly grabbed Taehyung and threw him over his shoulder, climbing out of the shallow water and strolling back to the others with a smug smile on his face.

"Put me down," Taehyung groaned, smacking Jungkook's back.

"Will you behave?" The younger asked, swinging side to side the scare him.

"Yes," The older replied, kicking his legs around.

"Jimin," Jungkook began, "Make sure he's a good boy."

He placed him down next to Jimin, his face red from all the blood rushing to it.

"Good boy? Is he six years old?" Jimin laughed, sorting Taehyung's messed up hair out for him.

"No, but he has a praise kink," The younger winked, causing Taehyung's cheeks to burn a deep crimson, "I'm only joking."

"Fuck you," Taehyung scrunched his nose up, leaning into Jimin, acting as though he was sad. In all honesty, Jungkook wasn't wrong, but that made it more embarrassing. The older wrapped his arms under Taehyung's and tugged him onto his lap, rocking him gently.

The atmosphere was warm and cheerful and everyone and it was the first time in a while that Taehyung saw Hoseok so lively and loud. It was nice to see the heart shaped smile was back, just like his high school days when he didn't have troubles day to day.

Taehyung peered to the side at Jimin through his thick bed of eyelashes.

He seriously looked like an angel, his delicate wings so sacred that they couldn't be seen.

What made it hard was that he could also be a fucking devil at times, too.

As the older turned his head to meet his eyes, he felt his breath hitch. Everything around them turned into a blur and it felt like it was only them in a blue bubble of calm.

However, the bubble was soon burst, for Seokjin deafeningly announced, "Food is ready!"

He divided the sausages onto the plates, gifting Hoseok with the grilled onions which nobody wanted. He let out a squeal when he was given the plate, causing the boys to snap their heads towards him, shocked that it came from him.

Namjoon returned from the log cabin, a laughably large bandage around his hand, "I found the first-aid kit."

"Oh my gosh," Seokjin rolled his eyes, a fond smile twitching at his pretty lips, "Are you capable of feeding yourself?"

"Yes, thanks!" He happily chirped, grabbing the plate Seokjin passed to him and sitting on a half-broken foldable chair.

Seokjin made his way over to Taehyung and Jimin, giving them a plate each and walking off.

"Thanks," Taehyung smiled, blowing on the sausage before taking a bite. He knew they were unhealthy, but he was hungry. He felt slightly guilty for eating, though he shook it off, for he needed to enjoy himself.

He felt Jimin's eyes on him, so he turned his head. He was staring intently, and it took Taehyung a moment before he realised why. Horny bugger.

Before the blush reached his cheeks, he was trying to think of something stupid to do so he wouldn't shrink under his gaze. His first instinct was to do something sexual back, so he grabbed the sausage and pretended to deep throat it, receiving a flick around his ear as the older laughed. Jimin bit into one of his own, trying not to laugh because he didn't want to choke.

It was nice.

He missed hanging out with his friends like this, but he knew the older they would grow, the busier their lives would all be. Therefore, he reminded himself to make the most of it, for when he has a full-time job and a family, he will miss moments like these.

So, he absorbed every laugh, every insult and every grin, and stored it deeply in his heart with the other memories they had made.

That was a reminder that he needed to live in the present and to try and move on from the past. There was no use in focusing on something which didn't need to affect him any longer, though it was easier said than done. Things like that always were.

It was different being with six people rather than five, but it wasn't necessarily a bad change. In fact, he loved the extra attention.

He loved the way he felt protected in between his legs.

He loved how Jimin didn't mind closeness.

That was one way he differed from Jungkook, for he would only allow him to be touchy with him if it meant he would receive a blowjob, or something along those lines. He guessed that was because they were simply friends with benefits, though it would be nice to have some friendly cuddles, too.

He loved how he didn't have to beg for attention.

He loved how he didn't feel the need to impress him, or be someone who he was not.

Sure, he liked him at that moment, but he didn't want to let anyone in until he was one hundred percent sure. It was too risky.

Sometimes Jimin passed the vibe check and other times he did not.

"What's that over there?" Jungkook called out, pointing to the side of the lake in the distance.

Yoongi furrowed his eyebrows and squinted his eyes before responding, "I think it's paddle boarding."

"Those people suck. I could do way better," Jungkook announced, taking another bite of the sausage as he continued to watch the poor kids wobble and lose their balance every time they dipped the paddle back in.

"They're literally children," Namjoon laughed, stunned at the boy's cockiness.

"I'd still be better as a child," He defended.

"Ever done it, Mr. I'm Good At Everything?" Seokjin questioned with his eyebrows raised. When the younger shook his head with a mouthful of food and a cheeky smile on his face, the eldest suggested, "We could try it out after we eat?"

The boys all nodded with excitement, thankful for being gifted with such nice weather for the activity. They continued eating and talking and laughing about dumb little things as the time passed.

"Taehyung," Jimin hummed, placing his plate down on the blanket next to him.

"Jimin," Taehyung replied, placing his on top of the others, turning to face the older.

"Would you consider me as a friend yet?" He asked, tucking a strand of hair between the younger's ear.

He pursed his lips together before truthfully replying, "No. Not yet."

He half expected the older to get mad or be offended, though he smiled and repeated, "Yet."
