I stepped into my hotel room in Manosque, the balcony had a lovely view of the town, while it was no Paris, it still had its charm.
"If you need anything, and I mean anything at all, please do not hesitate to call me Miss." the rather flirtatious concierge named Auto said to me. I laughed and nodded before placing my bags down and walked to the local bar. I could hear the piano music as I walked closer and closer, the person playing truly had a gift. I stepped inside and saw the man who was playing the piano; Elijah. He wore a charcoal fitted shirt with some casual jeans, not a suit. He was lost in the music, pouring his heart out, just like he used to play for the family and Hope when she was a baby. I wanted to go greet him but then remembered that he wouldn't know who I was. I walked straight to the bar and ordered a Bordeaux wine. I sat in the bar listening to Elijah's music for a good while, remembering all the good times we shared, and the bad. I hadn't even noticed when the music stopped that I hadn't touched my drink.
"Ok I'm gonna make a guess here." A man spoke. "You're either broke or you're a terrible drunk." The man said as I turned around and saw Elijah standing there, he looked at me with curious eyes trying to figure me out.
"Excuse me?" I asked realizing he had actually noticed me. Elijah was different, he wore no suit, his English accent was gone along with his highly expanded vocabulary. This man was more relaxed and he lived in the moment, something Elijah could never do.
"You've been nursing that drink for over an hour." He said looking at my wine. I smiled at his comment realizing he had not only noticed me, but he had been watching me.
"Well maybe there are some things that neither alcohol nor money can solve." I said and Elijah smirked intrigued with my response. "Do you ever have an ex that you just can't seem to get out of your system?" I said clearly talking about him, he just didn't know.
"Can I recommend something a little stronger than Bordeaux?" He asked lifting his eyebrows in the direction of my wine.
"Oh, I'm-I'm fine, but thank you." I said smiling at him. He chuckled and smiled back, this new Elijah was charming and vulnerable. He was so different.
"I'm Elijah." He said smiling.
"I'm Clara." I said looking at the floor for a quick moment to hide my smile.
"It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance Clara." Elijah said smiling as he looked at the bar, he then looked back at me his eyes filled with curiosity and joy. Even now we still had a profound connection. He sat down next to me and I smiled.
