My first week of school goes well, Megan and Nicki are cool friends and my classes aren't too bad. On Friday night, I decide to spend it watching Netflix until Dad decides to barge in my room. "I don't want you lounging around each weekend. You need try to find a job," he says. "Are you serious? You just made me move here with the Step-Monster and you can't even let me relax for five minutes?" I exclaim. "Katherine loves you, please stop calling her that. Give her a chance. I know this is hard for you," he says. "Well I'll find a job in my own time," I say, pressing play on my movie so he leaves.
Saturday morning, Dad shoves an AD infront of me while I'm trying to eat my cereal. "Babysitter Wanted" "I'm not babysitting," I say, groaning. Dad makes me ring the woman's number.
"Susan Heffley speaking." "...Hi. I'm Lina Edwards. I saw your AD for a babysitter, and I'm interested," I say. "Oh thank you for calling! I'd love to meet you!" she says. We organise to meet at her house this afternoon.
I drive to her address and to my horror, Rodrick's van is in the driveway. I cannot get away from this idiot! I take a deep breath and ring the doorbell. A woman with a warm smile answers the door. "You must be Lina, come in," she welcomes me. I sit down at the table with her. I nervously wait for Rodrick to walk in at any moment. "So, I'm 16 years old - I recently moved here and I started at Crossland High last week," I tell her. "Oh - you must know my eldest, Rodrick!" she says. "I - uh, yeah I've seen him around," I say. "The reason I need a babysitter is for my youngest boy, Manny. He's 3 and I can't trust Rodrick and Greg to look after him. I'm currently trying to work on Rodrick and Greg's relationship so I'll see how that goes," she explains. I really want to back away but Susan is so lovely and I can see she must struggle with having a son who can't even be nice to his own brothers. I agree to take the job. She wants me over each Friday night so her and Mr Heffley can go out on date nights.
