I try to avoid Rodrick all week, but as I'm walking to class, he appears next to me. "Hey new girl, heard you're the new babysitter," he says, chuckling. "Yeah well if I knew it was your house I wouldn't have showed up," I mumble. "Besides, why aren't you looking after your own brother?" I ask him. "I have band practice on Friday nights," he says, smugly. "Oh yeah? Is that what your trashy van is all about?" I laugh. "Hey, you won't call it trash after you hear us play," he says. "Oh I'm sure," I say, walking off.

Friday night finally comes, and I dress in comfortable sweats and a hoodie. I show up at 6pm. "Hi Lina!" Susan greets me. She goes over the rules for Manny and Greg. "We'll be home no later than 10pm," she says. "No worries, Mrs Heffley. Have a nice night," I say. I put on a movie for Manny and I sit with him until he falls asleep. Greg stays in his room playing video games. I take Manny to his room and he continues to sleep soundly. Piece of cake. It's only 8pm so I sit and watch TV while I wait for The Heffley's to get home. The door unlocks and Rodrick barges through.

He sees me and laughs. "How's the little turds?" he asks. "Manny is sound asleep," I say. I watch him open the fridge and start chugging milk from the carton. Gross. What a pig. I look away in disgust. He then plonks himself onto the couch and changes the channel. We sit there awkwardly in silence but thankfully, Frank and Susan Heffley arrive home. I tell Susan that Manny was an angel, then I head on home.

It's Saturday, and I have plans to hang out with Megan and Nicki and go to the local mall. I get ready, then head downstairs to eat breakfast. "Morning, Lina. How was babysitting?" Dad asks. "Pretty good. The Heffley's are nice," I say, "I'm also going shopping with my new friends today." Katherine sits down at the table. "Well, be home for 6:30pm. I've invited The Heffley's over for dinner so we can get to know them too," she says. Witch. I don't bother arguing. I go upstairs to grab my bag then head off.
