Moving On

On Friday morning, Susan calls me.
"Hi Mrs Heffley," I answer. "Hi Lina. I just wanted to have a chat. I'm so disappointed in my two boys, especially Rodrick. They've truly broken mine and Frank's trust. I'm sorry, but I won't need you to babysit Manny, for now. I'm going to work on disciplining my boys. For punishment, we're sending them to their Grandpa's retirement village this weekend," she tells me. "No, I understand. Call me anytime when you need someone to look after Manny," I say. "I appreciate it very much," she says.

I guess this is a sign to move on from Rodrick. Some things just aren't meant to work out. I'm disappointed for letting myself fall for someone who's clearly bad news. I know he still thinks about me, because in the corner of my eye I can sometimes see him staring at me in class. But if he really wanted me, he'd make things work.

In class, Megan leans in close to me. "Rodrick's been staring at you pretty much all class," she whispers. "I can see. But I'm moving on," I whisper back. At the end of the day, I walk to my car and Rodrick is waiting there. "I know I pulled a dick move, so I wanted to apologise in person," he says, hands in his pockets. "Mmm," I murmer. "I really do like you. But my band is my first priority and now that's all been ruined," he says. "I understand. Don't worry about it," I say, getting into my car. "I'll see you around then... I guess," he says. He smiles sadly then walks off. I drive home, and tears well up in my eyes. I flick them away, annoyed at myself.

I decide to just let myself move on. Highschool boys aren't worth it getting upset over.
