It's Friday night, and I'm feeling so nervous to go. Something in me is secretly hoping Rodrick is home, where I'll have him all to myself again. I wear a skirt and sweater and pull my long hair into a high pony-tail. "Bye, I'm off to babysit," I yell, walking out the door. When I pull into Rodrick's street, his van isn't there and I breathe out a sigh of relief. "Hi Lina! Frank and I will be home around eleven tonight, if that's okay? Greg is staying at Rowley's and Rodrick is at band practice," Susan tells me. "No problem at all," I say. I decide to play some games with Manny before he goes to sleep.
Once Manny is sound asleep, it's only 8pm so I decide to watch a movie while I wait. I turn on Netflix in the loungeroom, and decide to watch something funny to take my mind off the fact that Rodrick could walk in any second. Halfway into the movie, the door unlocks and my heart skips a beat. Rodrick softly walks into the room and sits down next to me. "Hi," he says, quietly. I look at him, he's wearing that eyeliner that gets me everytime. "Hi," I say. "I love Grown Ups," he says, chuckling at the TV. "Me too," I say. We watch it together, but there is an awkward tension between us. I wait...
"So, about the party..." he begins. Ahhh, finally. "Yeah?" I say. "Well, I just want to say I did mean that kiss," he says, quickly. "I wouldn't have thought, since you were hitting on Rachel Green that night?" I ask. "I've always thought about you, since the first time I saw you. I just never knew how you felt cause you would always make snarky comments," he says. "Me?! You're the one with the snarky comments and rude attitude," I exclaim. "I can't help it," he says, grinning. "How's practicing for the talent show going?" I ask, trying to change the subject. "I'm so ready. I got Bill in the band, so I already know we're going to win," he says. "Why don't you practice for me?" I ask. I know I'm being risky, because I want to go to his room.
He takes me up to his attic bedroom, and he starts playing - sober this time. I keep an eye on the time so The Heffley's don't come home to their babysitter in their son's bedroom. I love Rodrick's enthusiasm when he's playing, even if his band is a little corny. "You're amazing!" I say. He just smirks, he's just a tad too cocky. He comes and sits next to me, and it feels just like the party again. "So, can we finish what we started?" he asks.
