I lounge around all day, stressing about how I'm going to babysit Manny after Rodrick kissed me. Unless he doesn't remember? Ugh, I hate this so much. A notification pops up on my phone.

Rodrick: Hope you had a good night :)

I stare at my phone wondering how to reply. I decide to leave it because I hate getting caught up with boys. I'll just have to go a whole week with seeing him at school. I decide to text the group chat.

Me: He just texted me saying 'hope you had a good night'
Megan: Rodrick is bad news
Nicki: R U gonna reply?
Me: Nope. I'll just have to see him at school
Megan: You badass!

On Monday morning, I meet up with my friends before class. "Okay, we have cooking second period, that's the only time I'll have to see him today," I say. During P.E, everyone is talking about what a great time they had at Rodrick's. It's finally time for cooking, and I try to avoid eye contact with Rodrick. I succeed, until the end of class when he starts walking next to me. "Hey," he says. Megan and Nicki walk ahead, leaving me stuck with him. "Hi," I say. "Are you looking after Manny this Friday?" he asks. "I don't know, Mrs Heffley hasn't asked me yet," I say. "Oh, okay," he says. I notice he isn't being his usual smart-ass self. It's too awkward. "I'll see you around," I say, walking ahead. I feel bad but I'm just not used to this, I don't recognise these strange feelings I'm getting when I think about him.

That night, Susan Heffley texts me.

Susan: Hello Lina. If you could look after Manny this Friday that would be very appreciated hun.

I lie on my bed wondering what to do, but I don't want to let her down.

Me: I'll be there :)
