"Did you got the chance to talk to him before he passed away?" I asked. I knew the last moments can be so crucial and pivotal in someone's life and memory.

"Yes, I did. But," Chris looked at me in my eyes. "...it wasn't enough. I need to hear more from him, Grace. I need him to guide me, to see me graduate from Duke, to explain things to you," he was silent after he mentioned the word 'explain'.

"Is it that hard to explain?" I asked again. He nodded after breaking our eye contact. I exhaled a deep breath. "Okay, I won't push you," I told him. "But I really need to know and hear it at least before you enter college."

He nodded again. "I remember the day I brought you to see my parents. Dad said, 'She's perfect for you. Keep her,' and I asked him why. He said that he can feel your vibe as soon as he saw you," he scoffed. "Tried to act like a fortune teller."

"He did say that?" I chuckled. Chris smiled and nodded his head. "How sweet," I exclaimed.

"I just wished I didn't hurt you, you know," he stared at me. "I don't want to be this Chris. I want to be the Chris that you fell in love with."

"I trusted you," I told him. "I did," I smiled.

"Stay," he said to me and smiled.

I looked at him deeply. "We were together for about one month and I used to believe that, you would never hurt me. Only by that short period," I said. "And, I trust you."

His eyes went wide and I could tell that he was so surprised. "It's not in the past tense," I nodded and smiled at him. "Thank you," he exclaimed.

"Your father is a nice person. I'm sure, you are a nice person too although it's hard for me to actually digest everything. A lot of things happened to me now," I scoffed.

"What is it?" He asked.

I looked at him. "You wouldn't want to know," I chuckled and I glanced at him. The look he gave me was an inquisitive look so I sighed and I turned my body to look at him. "Diane entered the rehab again," I told him.

Shocks appeared on his face. "Why?" He asked again.

"Well... she involved herself with drugs abuse again," I said.

"But a part of you didn't believe she did that, did you?" He guessed which was technically correct. I was so surprised by his statement.

"I believe she did that," I lied to him.

He looked at me deeply and then, he shifted his gaze to the pool in front of us. "Fine," he scoffed.

Shortly after that, Phoebe came towards us. "Phoebe," Chris stood up immediately and he glanced at me slightly before looking at Phoebe again.

"Hi!" She said as she walked. "I'm sorry for your loss," Phoebe pulled him into her embrace. "Katie," Phoebe let Chris go. "I didn't know you were here."

"Yeah, I just have a little talk with Chris for a while," I explained and smiled at her.

"Well, I didn't know you two are this close," she continued.

I glanced at Chris and he was so hesitant to even say anything. "She closed to my dad, that's why," he said.

"Really?" Phoebe scoffed. "Oh yes, I remembered we met at the hospital. I hope it just that because if you guys have a thing, you might have to accept me as his FWB, Katie," she laughed.

I frowned. "Noted on that," I smiled ruefully. "I will see Mrs Daniels and leave you two to talk," I continued.

"Gra... Katie," Chris called me. It was odd to hear him calling me 'Katie'. "I guess I'll see you tomorrow?" He looked at me with high hopes.
