The day was sunny, well, as sunny as it could get in Liverpool, and I remember it so clearly since this was the day everything began to change. I was sitting behind the counter at Tony's Trebled Tunes at around 12:27 pm when his daughter finally decided to show up.
"Geez Louise! Talk about traffic!" Yelled the brunette as she took off her sunglasses.
Tony came here all the way from New Jersey in America to sell music. He says Liverpool has few good music shops so there isn't much competition here, plus he likes it since we are a good ways away from any major city like New York.
Anyways so Michelle runs in shouting about god only knows, traffic or something, and then she goes off about a boy. "He was so cute! He had these doe eyes! Boy would I like a piece of that! I said 'what's a cute boy like yourself doin inna place like this?' And he goes 'me mum just died'" I looked at her wide eyed. "Don't give me that look I felt like shit anyways! I said I was sorry and gave him a discount card for some sheet music. Last time I try to pick up a boy in a hospital!"
"Gee thanks you only gave me about ten more questions to ask! Chelle, what in the world were ya doing in the hospital?" I asked tossing her name tag her way.
"I had bad stomach pain, thought I was dying! Just cramps though so I'm pushin through!" She laughed and I didn't. She was two years younger than me and boy let me tell you she was a handful to look out for. I do like her though, we were pretty close. We spend a lot of time at school with one another.
"Okay, now how would you know the boy wanted anything to do with a discount card for the music store?" I asked switching places with her.
"Oh well ya see, this boy was playing his guitar in the lobby and he says his mom and dad taught him to play and that he wants to keep going with it since it always made her so happy. He said he might stop by today!" She giggled excitedly. "Oh by the way dad wants to promote ya."
This really caught my attention, "Promote me? But Chelle I'm just a volunteer, I don't even have a job!"
"Oh well it must have slipped his mind since he wants to make you manager!" I gasped and we both screamed excitedly. "Yeah! I talked him into it, bein that we are the only employees I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to just hire ya!"
"Michelle you really didn't have to do that! Oh my goodness, well, this is just the greatest thing ever!" I said hugging her.
"Well you start today so get back behind the counter," she pushed me back but quickly grabbed my arm and yanked me out once again. "Oh my god it's him! He's commin up! Ah man, I'm behind the counter you go stock or something!" I laughed as she pushed me towards the back room. "No need for a stud like you to take any more Brit boys from me!"
I went to the back room and watched as the boy walked in. He was clearly younger, probably Michelle's age, but he was cute. He had a baby face, which I'm sure he will grow out of soon enough, but his eyes were like that of a doe. I could see why she had the hots for him but it still remained funny to me that she was going crazy for him and barely knew the lad.
"Hi, um, so I'm here like I promised." He said rubbing the back of his neck. "What kind of discount can I get? You kind of just ran off after throwing it at me so I got a little lost finding the place." I burst out laughing in the back room.
"Shut it Cam!" She yelled startling the boy. She turned back and gave him the cutest smile she could muster, "Sorry bout all that, here let me see," she took the discount card and stared at it. She looked back up at him and smiled, "one moment please," she tried to sound seductive, then startled the boy again, "Cam, what is this card for!?" She screamed.
Still laughing I came out from the back room and took the card from her. She remained smiling at the scared boy. "This is for," I cleared my throat since I was still laughing, "This is for 50% off any one thing from the store." I handed the card back to him.
"Thanks," he smiled, "I'm James, my friends call me Paul though."
"My names Camille, and my friends call me Cam." I said shaking his hand.
"My names Michelle, but call me Chelle if you wanna or somethin." She cut in.
"Hey Michelle can you grab me the billing book from upstairs? I'll have to write this one down for your dad." I winked at her. She must have thought I was gonna explode with wing manism because she practically flew up the stairs. I turned towards Paul, "Hey, if today isn't a good day then you could escape now and come back another time, that lasts about a year."
"Why would today be a bad day?" Tilting his head to the side slightly I could see Michelle had sent me a dud message.
"Oh, um, Michelle said you were at the hospital for your mum." I was trying not to say anything that might upset him or make him feel anymore uncomfortable than I'm sure he already was.
"No, my mum passed away a month ago, I go to the hospital every now and then since a lot of the patients like to hear me play. Mum always said that the most important thing in life was other people's happiness. I'm trying to keep that message going." He looked down a bit embarrassed.
"That's beautiful." He chuckled. "No really," I pressed, "music is a good way to carry a message. It's really nice to see a young lad live for his mum."
He smiled, "I'm not that young ya know, you don't look that old either."
"No, I'm fifteen currently but they say I've got the mind of an adult, whatever that means."
He laughed again, "Well, your friend, Michelle was it? She seems fun, I might have to come here more often." He beamed. Oh my goodness he was flirting with me.
"I'm sure she would love that." I smiled at him, next time he came I would make it so he actually had to interact with Michelle.
"Well Camille," he smiled at the sound of my name, "Until next time." And with that he left.
I smiled to myself, I wasn't one to fall easily, but what a charmer! If he wanted a bird I'm sure he'd get her easily.
My thoughts quickly moved back to John. Earlier today George had come to get him a harmonica, I'm excited to hear him play it, but I'm sure Mimi has no clue. George and I had talked for a bit about John and how he is rooting for us on the side. He's a sweet man and I hope to get to know him even better soon. I have only ever talked to him while sneaking about so with the new possibility of our friendship being open I can actually have a conversation with George.
He's a sweet man who wants the best for John and loves Mimi with all his heart. Calls her his love, I find it absolutely adorable. A love like that is one I want for myself in the future. My current problem is if that's with John or not. We still haven't had time to really talk about anything but we are meeting tonight.
"Okay so I got half way through dads magazines when I realized that there is no billing book and ya just a bitch." Michelle slid down the spiral stair railing. "Hey! Where did he go? Ya let em walk out! I swear to god it's the last time I let ya do somethin for me." She shuffled to the back room sighing, probably going to take her afternoon nap after doing nothing.
I rolled my eyes and continued doing the work that we were supposed to share.
~Authors note~
I had to change the ages back to 15 because I got some dates mixed up. So it's still 1955, if you go back and look at Rain I fixed it there too. I'm not sure if I corrected all of the places it says the ages so if you see any please let me know!
