Beam grabbed too tight on to one of the steel bars in the elevator, that his knuckles turned white. His breath slightly uneven and face paled. He could see Forth’s assistant stealing glances at his sorry state.
“Are you ok Mr. Baramee? You look quite unwell” Ming remarked in concern.
Beam just lightly shook his head. “I’m fine” he huffed , trying to calm his breath, and the unpleasant feeling in his gut. The other man obviously wasn’t buying it. “Should I inform my boss about your state?”
Beam panicked. “No!” . He grabbed Ming by wrist, as if to stop him from executing his words. “Don’t tell him! This...this will pass away”
The other man merely nodded, the look of concern never leaving his eyes. Beam let go of his hand and sighed. And continued to focus on his breathing. He would be able to return to his normal state soon. This is nothing. Nothing for a person who used to handle frequent panic attacks.
After what it felt like a never ending ride, the elevator stopped on the 15th floor. What the heck? Why does this building have that many storeys?
As the door slid open, Ming moved out and waited for the younger man. Ming was about to lead him through another glass door, but Beam halted his steps. “You are taking me to Forth right?”
Ming nodded, with a questionable look on his face. Beam nervously played with a cuff of his shirt. “Can I stay around here for a bit, before seeing him? And have a glass of water perhaps? I need to _”
“Of course” Ming affirmed, saving him from the anxiety of looking for a reason to calm himself down.
The assistant took him to a lounge area in the said floor (another lounge?) and offered him a glass of water that Beam gladly accepted.
“When you feel like you are ready, walk down that corridor. It will open to Forth’s desk area. This whole floor is his Office. And currently there is no one around except for boss” Ming stated. “So if you want anything, call my mobile”
Beam merely nodded, taking a sip from the glass of water. Ah! That was refreshing.
The man bid farewell with a simple nod and left the floor.
Beam tried to relax, even though it was not a very successful attempt. The dread and panic that was caused by Lenny’s words were now replaced by nervousness and restlessness.
His heart was beating fast that he was genuinely afraid it would burst. He wanted to see Forth. So badly. But at the same time he did not know how he would react. Shaking his thoughts away he stood up. He took a deep breath and walked down the corridor Ming showed him.
He wants to see Forth...so badly...
The corridor opened up to a huge space. A couch set and a coffee table at the entrance and a huge desk in front.
Leaning against the desk was the man he was desperately waiting for; For days and nights. Forth was looking out of the window. He couldn’t catch his expression from that far. But he could see that the man is yet to acknowledge his presence.
Beam moved closer, and hearing his steps, Forth broke from his trance. His eyes locked with Beam's. He didn't look surprised obviously. He was expecting the younger's arrival.
But as soon as his eyes met with Beam, his expression shifted into something sad and tragic. Brows furrowed and eyes begging mercy...He moved from his place, taking a step towards the younger. But he didn't reach him. He couldn't reach him.
He didn't deserve to reach him….
So he just stood there, staring at the man he fell in love with, with eyes filled with sorrow and pain. The unreadable look in Beam's eyes felt like a punishment. Few steps between them felt like a thousand miles. They were so close and yet so far.
Forth wanted to reach him…
"Beam.. I…" his voice broke, shattered across the room and it's shards sank into Beam's ears. Beam, who closed his eyes letting those shards of voice burry deep inside him. So they would always be there...always.
Beam, who was trying to grasp into anything that that would make him feel safe.
"Beam I'm sorry.. I.."
Before Forth could even finish his words, Beam was already in his arms. His face pressed against the olders's chest, his arms wrapped around the man's torso, his hands grabbing tightly on his shirt.
Beam felt a big slender hand cupping the back of his head, pressing him to that firm chest, and a strong arm wrapping tightly around his petite waist.
And tears wear streaming down his cheeks, wetting the older man's shirt, when Forth pressed his cheek against his head and murmured "I'm sorry...I'm so sorry Beam…"
Beam didn't know what he was apologizing for, in that voice soaked in sadness. He didn't say anything. Just hugged him tight as Forth kissed the crown of his head.
He wanted this moment to last forever. Never wanted to leave this warmth, this affection, this…safety, ironic though it was.
"Let's go home.." Beam whispered between his sobs. His voice soaked into Forth's chest. "Let's go home…" Forth repeated. Forth's voice never sounded this relieved.
Forth wanted to reach the man he loves…
And Beam did too...
