Loud music and harsh air filled with the scent of alcohol welcomed Zhuo Cheng as he paved his way inside the bar where his cousin is.
Just by the look at Zhan and the empty bottles surrounding him, Cheng knew he has been sozzled passed his limit just like 7 years ago.
He could still recall how devastated and wasted Zhan was back then. Mumbling and crying as if he had lost his purpose in life.
"He is gone. I lost him. I let him go." were his words. Tearing his own heart to let it bleed, hoping the pain will go, but Cheng knew it did not helped Zhan the tiniest bit. The man was broken and remained to be broken upto this day.
"Oh! You're here!" Zhan welcomed Cheng's arrival with his sunken eyes and sclera densely threaded with scarlet veins. His cheeks' rosiness confirmed Cheng's assumption of his state, "You're drunk as a skunk! What is it this time?!" Cheng reprimanded, veins popping on his temples, anger upsurging in his short-tempered self.
Zhan feigned a laugh at his cousin's temperament, but his eyes soon betrayed him and automatically stinged, shedding tears of anguish.
Opening his usually closed heart, Zhan sobbed, "I lost him again."
The long night dragged on with the start of that statement. Zhan poured his heart out with every glass he consumed. He drank more, one after the other, wishing the pain will go away at the bottom of each glass and then of each bottle and then the next bottle until there lay a handful more of empty glasses and spirit bottles on the counter top.
Too intoxicated, Zhan's ideas flew rapidly with his slurred speech, yet it also abruptly changes from one topic into another, all spiraling towards his unrequited love.
Cheng, lending him his ears, realized how sadistic and masochistic Zhan was, letting himself repetitively fly to the moon in reminisce then back to hell upon recalling his heartbreak, while laughing and crying at the same time.
As Zhan's consciousness started slipping away, Cheng decided to end Zhan's foolish blabber and drag him back home.
Zhan was struggling on his feet yet he pushed Cheng away when the elevator to his apartment was about to close. "I-- can m-man--age." He stammeredly pronounced hiccuping between each syllable, swaying his fingers in the air, until the elevator door closed on Cheng's annoyed face.
The quietness of that small platform made Zhan broke into tears again. He slid onto the floor and buried his tear-drenched face on his palms, chanting "Yibo, my love. I love you. I miss you...and it hurts." over and over again. His tears never ran out no matter how many times he has cried for that love which he had let slip away.
When the lift arrived on the penthouse with a ding, Zhan clumsily wiped his face, pulling himself up. He staggered and almost crawled his way to his house, feeling pity on himself but still laughing at his drunken state.
He fumbled with the door's password, entering the four numbers he memorised by heart.
0-8-0-5
But the damn door refuses to open!Frustrated, after failing miserably one after another trial, Zhan kicked the door, its loud echoes booming on the desolated hallway.
"Damn it! Even you wanted me to forget him?!" He spat on the innocent door, leaning his unsteady body on the polished black wood.
"One more try." Zhan breathed calming himself then typed the same number combination. He hasn't clicked the enter button yet when the door opened on its own. Shocked, Zhan waited for it to open fully and what greeted him was an unknown man wearing a pure black outfit from a black baseball cap on his head, to his black hoodie paired with a black Nike jogger pants and then to his dark shoes.
"W-Who are you?" Zhan's clumsy finger pointed at the intruder but his sozzled self ended up colliding on the other's chest. He is too drunk to even stand upright.
Mind drifting in and out and lids half open in struggle, Zhan unashamedly rested his head on the man's shoulder. On a normal day, he would've pinned the intruder down and called the police. But right now, the alcohol in his system has turned him to be thoughtless and reckless.
"Whatever!" He hissed and tried to push himself up, but he has only managed to lift his head up before it fell back on the crook of the man's neck.
Breathing that man's scent from such closeness, Zhan became hypnotised by the familiar fragrance.
"Sandalwood." He mumbled, unashamedly sniffing more from the motionless man. "You s-smell like him." Words slurring, Zhan let out a giggle until everything went dark.
