Waking up to the now familiar swarthy themed room, Zhan tried to stoutly open his heavy eyelids. He searched for Yibo's presence, only to be disheartened that he was nowhere around.
Letting out a hollow chuckle, "He can't love me." he said. His brain reliving what had passed between them last night.
It was clear as day to him, his fated soulmate, Lan Zhan, doesn't recognize him. While his precious Didi doesn't even wanna give him a chance to have a space in his heart.
"Wei Wuxian, did you expect that fuddy-duddy to break the rule of rebirth and turn around? Why should you be so unrestrained until the end? Look at me now, even in this lifetime, my heart only beats for that boring man!"
He hid his face between his knees. His situation? Pitiful and ridiculous. "Oh, Lan Zhan. My Lan Zhan." he chanted, pain again hitting him like how his golden core was removed. He wanted to scream, trash out, and cry to lessen his brokenness, but his tears has turned stubborn and refuses to flow. "He can't love me." he repeated, cackling loudly to deflect his sad emotions.
"I know good psychiatrists. I can refer you to one." a familiar voice ringed in Zhan's ears.
He looked up and was shocked to see Zhuo Cheng approaching him. "What are you doing here? How did you get in?" he started questioning, staring at his favourite archenemy cousin.
Cheng rolled his eyes, displeased with Zhan's 'warm' welcome. "Through the door, of course. You're not just crazy. You've turned dumb as well." he said, sarcasm flourishing his sharp tongue.
"Yah!" Zhan shouted, irritated with Zhuo Cheng's response.
The other hissed, rudely offering a tray of porridge and tea. "Here."
Zhan's eyes instantly twinkled at the sight of food, slurping unashamedly. "I know you love me, A-Cheng."
"In your dreams." Cheng spatted, crossing his arms as he settled himself on the chair opposite Zhan. "Can you at least eat quietly?!" He commanded, disgusted by Zhan's deliberate loud chewing and chomping sound. He really knew how to annoy the hell out of Zhuo Cheng. And irritating this dear cousin of his has always been one of his major role in this lifetime...or even in his previous lifetime. "You never change." he murmured.
"What?" Cheng fizzled.
Zhan innocently smiled wiping the gruel on the corner of his mouth and licking his thumb like a grubby child.
'Gross.' Cheng flinched at the sight. Zhan exactly knew how to hit Cheng's short string.
"Hey! You haven't answered me, how did you get in here. Is this house open for everyone to come in or something?" Zhan pouted. He'd thought he was somewhat special to Yibo, bringing him inside his home. Not once, but twice. As far as he know, even Yibo's manager isn't allowed to enter. Or did Mr. Lam lied?
"I came through the door." Cheng defiantly answered, now his turn trying Zhan's patience.
"And how come you know the passcode?"
"Dr. Wang Hai Kuan told me." Cheng started, but upon hearing the word Wang, Zhan jumped to his feet startling Zhuo Cheng who had also sprang to his feet. "Did you meet his brother?! Is he still here?!"
Zhan patiently waited until Cheng had resolved his startle. "He isn't here. It's just us two." He finally declared. A frown instantly warped in Zhan's visage.
"Why are you even looking for his Didi?" Cheng demanded while scrutinizing Zhan's downcasted expression. His sadness seems peculiarly familiar, Cheng thought. And the more he think about it, he suddenly understood. His face went ashen gaping like a fish at his love-wrecked cousin. "I-Is it...?" He stammered, undecided whether his question will hit bullseye. But his guts pushed him to ask away. "Is it...him?"
His question came out vague. Zhan tilted his head deciphering the real meaning behind the few words until it sinked into his mind, persistently lodging in his heart.
"If I answer, No, will you believe me? If I answer, Yes, will you judge me?"
Cheng has a hunch about it. He isn't totally oblivious of Zhan's great love. Whenever he come for a rescue to his cousin's drunken madness, Zhan would cry his eyes out stating, 'I lost him.'
He. Him. His Didi.
Cheng became quiet. Does he really need Zhan's confirmation? Or should he just admit that he knew...all along these past years?
He was lost for the right words to say. Zhan perceived his silence as him swaying into the societal opinion against cut sleeves. "Are you judging my sexual preference now?" his voice sounded hurt with a lingering tone of mockery.
"I do not!" Cheng firmly replied. "I accept your dumb-ass for who you are! And that...!" he averted his eyes, sharply inhaling before giving away with clenched jaw. "1-0-0-5."
"Huh?!" Zhan confusedly stared at Cheng.
"October 5!" the other repeated with higher pitch than necessary.
"I know that's my date of birth! And it's still half a year away! What about it?" Zhan shouted back, irritated by Cheng's irrational answer.
Cheng's lips puckered and his brows knotted. "That's the passcode to this house."
