Numerous were the times wherein Zhan had stopped by The Wang's mansion and be denied to meet its new Master. Today is just another one of those rejections.
'Pathetic.'
Zhan's tiny hope of meeting Yibo again that day turned to ashes as the clock turned half past 6 in the evening, and still even in his own home, Yibo is nowhere to be found.
"Later means do not expect, Xiao Zhan." Zhan sighed, bearing a forlorn smile as he drove away from Yibo's abode and onto his parents' neighbouring home.
It has been several times that his mother had contacted him to come over for dinner, but as his schedule is too jam-packed, Zhan has always had to say, 'Next time'. Today though, he feels like he needs his mother and nanny's comforting scrumptious home-cooked meals to uplift his low spirits.
7 pm is the usual dinner time at the Xiao's residence and so he came a few minutes earlier to first pay respects to his parents.
Long stemmed lotus flowers on clear and shiny tall vases decorated every corner of the house when Zhan arrived. He was amused by his mother's dedication to interior designing, changing the house's decor as she pleases. His father had spoiled her too much in her passion, yet Zhan couldn't complain anything about their relationship. All is always in harmony between the two ever since Zhan could remember.
He was reminiscing happy pasts when he had suddenly thought of his parents in his previous life.
'Were they also like them? Were they always happy together? Loving each other and never getting tired?'
Zhan couldn't remember well, couldn't remember anything at all, as they've died when Wei Ying was only 4. It was Jiang Fengmian who had kindly adopted him and brought him up with love like what he bestow on his own children. The love of a father which Zhan is trully thankful for.
'I wish I can see them again in this lifetime.' He wistfully wished. 'Them' pertaining to all the significant persons he had met in his previous life.
"Lan Zhan." Zhan murmured, thoughts wandering back to Yibo. 'At least, I have found you in this lifetime. You're all I need.' He thought, but did not say out loud. "I already miss you." He sighed, pressing his temples, trying to bear his yearning.
Zhan continued walking through their mansion, briefly pushing away the sad thoughts.
Entering the dinning area, he can't help but foolishly laugh. His mother had outdone that night's dinner, preparing a feast of all kinds which is too much for just the three of them.
Then a disturbing thought strike him. Zhan glanced again around the room, now feeling nervous, thinking there is more to that night's dinner set up. 'My dreaded stuffy affair!' he hissed to himself.
"Are you expecting a visitor? Because I am sure you won't prepare such a grandiose meal just to welcome back your only son." He interrogated his mother as soon as he saw her come in.
Mrs. Xiao Yu laughed merrily, wagging her finger in front of Zhan then pinching her son's cheeks. "You're not just cute, but also very perceptive, my clever boy."
"So you're really expecting a visitor?" Zhan mocked, raising his eyebrows in disbelief. "Can't we just have a normal family dinner with just the three of us?" He complained with a pout, not in the greatest mood to socialise with his father's business partners or his mother's friends who usually just force him to date their daughters.
"This is a family dinner." His mother replied with an unfathomable sparkle in her eyes.
"Really, mom?" Zhan frowningly reposted, unimpressed with Mrs. Xiao's words while watching her smoothen her dress which is already ironed-out perfectly. "You're unbelievable." Zhan audibly sighed, pouting harder, displaying his dissent. Basing on Mrs. Xiao's actions, he can now confirm, 100%, that there really is an important guest for that evening of whom he isn't informed about.
