Luke's pov:
A silence that feels deadly falls over the room. All eyes on me and the tension thickens. I just stare straight ahead, ignoring everyone, even Noreen, I'm done worrying about everyone, and I'm done worrying about myself. I sit up and fold my hands together and from the corner of my eye, I see Richard staring at me. I look at him for a quick second and he looks down at the floor as his hands start to shake slightly. I stand up and get on the podium myself, I might have not wanted to come, but I'm not letting my girlfriend go to prison for something ridiculous as this.
Noreen's lawyer stands up and clears his throat, the judge looks at me for a faint second but then looks away. I sit up and softly tap my fingers against my knee.
"Hello Mr. Hemmings," the lawyer says.
"Hey," I say.
He fixes his tie and I know how uncomfortable he feels by me just being here. As soon as I walked into the court room the whole atmosphere changed, I tend to do that often now.
"So, you arrived late, how come?" He asks.
"I didn't want to come, I just found this whole thing stupid...but I changed my mind because I wasn't going to let Noreen go to prison for this,"
"And why did you find this stupid?"
I look around the room and see everyone's placid face. They all stare at me intensely like they have never seen a teenaged boy before and every time I look back at them they begin to murmur.
"I found this stupid because Richard is a pathetic man. He lives for the attention, first he uses his wife Janise who died in a car accident for it, then his riches, and finally this scandal that his daughter tried to kill him. It's just so laughable, but he is too simpleminded to realise that,"
I look at him and his fists are clenched as his face becomes a soft red.
"So you know his wife died? But if Richard, as he states never met you before, how could you possibly know this if Noreen didn't tell you?"
"That bastard lied. His whole story is a fake, and I bet that lie gave him the attention he wanted. I know his wife died because I was in the same car accident as her. I was 13 so I knew this man for four years. Noreen only told me about her mother once, I figured that it was her mother in that car accident when she came to my house one day. Also by finding out that her last name was Oliver, the same as Richard’s,"
The lawyer nods then stands still. He looks straight at me and I can see the fear in his eyes, the way his hands are slightly shaking. He is intimidated by me.
"And how long have you known Noreen? How long have you two been together?"
"Since the ninth grade I knew her, but we have only been together since February,"
I look down for a quick second then back up at the lawyer.
"I love her, I really do, but I know one day she'll leave me..."
I grit my teeth as I say this and I hear my voice getting deeper than it is.
"What do you mean she will leave you? Does this have to do with what happen May 5th?"
I shake my head, this only has to do with since the day we finally talked. The day she looked at me and knew I existed.
"I don't know how to say this..."
I stop and think, because I can't just say I'm afraid she's going to leave me because I'm possessed. I have to say something believable
"I’m mental...and also have anger issues, so being with her makes me feel like I belong that I'm not crazy or whatever, and I don't want to lose her over that, because if I do...I might as well die,"
