I look down at the brand-new eyeshadow palette that I bought from ColourPop a couple of days ago. I'm at Shaina's house getting ready for Prom with her, Jamie, and out other friends Ella and Isabel.
"Can you help me with the eye shadow? I don't use it often and I'm not sure what would look good with the dress." I ask them.
"I like the dark pink eye shadow on the pallet. I can do your eyeshadow, if you want." Jamie say. I nod my head. She walks over sand sits across from me and takes the pallet. She then works her makeup magic and does my eyeshadow and eyeliner for me. I look at the mirror and smile.
"You're a miracle worker Jamie." I say.
"I'm always here for a little makeup magic." She says and goes back to doing her own makeup. I look back at the mirror. I look at the lipstick I brought and pick out a medium shade pink and hold it up for them to see.
"Is this a good shade?" I ask.
"Oh, Yes!" Isabel says. She is wearing a red dress like mine, except without the flowers and more sequence. Ella nods her head in agreement. She is wearing a dark green mermaid style dress.
Once we are all dressed up, we take pictures at the gazebo in Shaina's backyard. Then our guy friends (Aaron, Ethan, Max, Zach, and Aiden) pull into their large driveway in 3 different cars and they come out for pictures. For most of the pictures, Aiden and I stand next to or close to each other... maybe he will ask me to slow dance?
The girls take one car to Carrabbas, our restaurant of choice. Isabela and I are the only girls without dates. Jamie is obviously going with Ethan, Shaina is going with Max, and Ella is going with her boyfriend Zach. Although, Shaina Specifically had Aaron and I sit next to each other.
After dinner we head to the Old Town Torpedo Factory, a quaint Art 'museum' that is often used for parties, and occasionally proms or homecomings. We walk into the building and are greeted by two men in finely tailored suits, and give us directions to the second floor, where the prom is. When we walk into the room, it is decorated like Van Gogh's Starry Night. The walls are covered in blue, gold and black fabric with twinkle lights and lanterns spread across the ceiling. For most of the night our group dances and hangs out around the photo booth.
"After this song, we will announce the Prom Kind and Queen, then play our song for the slow dance." The DJ announces.
"Who'd you nominate for king and queen?" Shaina asks, sitting very closely to Max. We are all sitting at a table, and of course I'm sitting next to Aaron.
"I nominated myself, of course." Jamie says.
"I nominated you too." I say. Jamie blows me a kiss.
"I nominated Shaina." Max says.
"Aw, well I nominated Jamie too." Shaina says and laughs.
When the song ends everyone gathers around the stage for the announcement of king and queen. We stay at our table because we have a pretty good view of the stage, but Ella mentioned that you don't have to be able to see the stage, we really only need to hear the DJ.
"Alright Westmore High, who's ready to know who your prom Queen and King are?" The DJ asks. Student clap and cheer in anticipation. "Alright! Mrs. Henderson, will you please announce who our Prom King is?"
"Yes!" Mrs. Henderson, an AP Lit teacher, says. She is holding a king's crown in one hand, and a piece of paper in the other. The DJ is holding the mic for her. "And our Junior Prom King is... Aaron VanDorren!"
Everyone claps and cheers. I look over at him and smile, but His face says he's not terribly excited for the nomination. He walks up to the stage and Mrs. Henderson Places the crown on his head, then congratulates him.
"Now time for Principle Tremaine to announce this years Queen!" The DJ says. Principle Tremaine walks onto the stage with a gorgeous tiara and a piece of paper.
"Ok, This years Prom Queen is..." He says and looks down at the paper. "Jamie Silverman!"
"What a turn of events!" Shaina says and our table laughs. Jamie stands up and walks to the stage, still laughing. Principle Tremain place the crown on her head and she smiles her striking smile.
"Another round of applause for our King and Queen!" The DJ yells into the mic. Everyone cheers again. "And now it's time for our slow dance, lead by our king and queen"
Our table walks out to the dance floor as Jamie and Aaron walk off the stage to the center of the floor. The DJ starts the slow song as everyone watches Jamie and Aaron start the dance. Someone taps me on the shoulder and I turn around; It's Ethan.
"Um, so since my girlfriend is dancing with practically your boyfriend, do you want to start the slow dance together?" He asks. I nod. He lightly places his arms around my waist as I loop my arms around his neck.
"What do you mean by practically boyfriend?" I ask Ethan.
"Oh, you and Aaron seem so close, it would make sense for you two to date." He says.
"Oh." I say and look down.
"Sorry, I shouldn't have assumed anything, you two could be just friends." He says. I slightly nod my head and look back up at Ethan. I wish I was looking up at Aaron. "But it seems like he really likes you."
"Really?" I ask him. He nods his head. Jamie comes over and Ethan quickly takes his hands off my waist. Jamie takes his hand and looks over at me and smiles, then winks. They walk away as Aaron walks up to me.
"May I finish this dance with you?" He asks, smiling.
"Yes." I whisper. He carefully places his hands on my waist, and I loop my arms around his neck. He looks down at me, his blue eyes looking into mine. "That was quite the turn of events, you and Jamie."
"Yeah." He says. He leans down and whispers to me, "I wish you were up there with me, to be quite honest."
"Really?" I ask him. He nods. I smile and blush. I rest my head against his chest, enjoying the rest of the slow dance with him.
At the end of the night I'm pretty tired, and my feet start to hurt from the high heels I've worn all night.
"Hey Kira, do you want to come with us to Kelsie's house? She's throwing an after party." Shaina asks.
"Um, I think I'm going to head home, actually." I say.
"How will you get home?" She asks me. Shoot, I forgot we took her car here.
"Um..." I say and look around.
"I can take you home." Aaron says.
"Hm..." Shaina says and looks at him.
"I promise, I will only take her home." Aaron says and holds up his hands.
"That would be great." I say and smile. I look over at Shaina and she nods.
"Text me when you get home." She says then whispers to me. "With our secret code."
"I will, love you." I say.
"I love you too." She says. I follow Aaron to his car. When we get in, he asks,
"Does she really not trust me?"
"You can never be too sure." I say.
