-Kira-
I pull up to the school's athletic fields and watch the end of the baseball teams' practice. The batter hits the ball straight to centerfield. The centerfielder misses the ball, but he quickly catches it and throws it to second, and the batter is out. The coach calls the boys in and they walk back to the locker rooms.
I text Aaron where I parked, and I see him walking toward my car. I walk out and open the trunk for him to put his things away.
"I could've opened that." He says and laughs.
"Really? You're carrying a lot of stuff." I say and smile.
"True." He says and smiles as he puts his stuff in my car. We get in when I realize I don't know where we're going.
"So, we are we heading to?" I ask him.
"A small diner near my old neighborhood." He says and smiles. He gives me the address and I start driving.
"Did you go there often?" I ask him.
"Yeah, I went a lot with my Mom, she has a friend who works there." He says.
I pull into the quaint dinner and we walk in. The host smiles when we walk in.
"Aaron, is that you?" She asks.
"Yes, it's nice to see you Mrs. Snyder." He says and smiles.
"How are you doing?" she asks.
"Pretty good." He says. "School is stressful, but other than that everything is pretty good." He says.
"That's good." She says. She then looks at me and smiles. "I don't think I've seen you before."
"I'm Kira, were friends from Westmoore." I say.
"Well, follow me to your table then." Mrs. Snyder says. She takes us to a small booth in the back and we sit across from each other.
"This place is really cute." I say.
"Yeah, it brings back old memories." Aaron says.
"Was that your Mom's friend?" I ask.
"Yeah, she lives in the neighborhood by my old house." He says. I can tell it makes Aaron sad to think about that, so I change the subject.
"How is baseball going? I saw you beat South County recently." I say.
"Yeah, I wasn't expecting to win that game, but we won by 2 runs." He says, smiling. "You know, the Cubs play the Nationals soon."
"Not till June." I say. "But Markus is Making me go to the Yankees game in July."
"Oh no not the Yankees." Aaron says and chuckles.
"When you live in New York, you have to like the Yankees." I say.
"Why do you like the Cubs?"
"My Grandpa grew up in Chicago and loves the cubs. Every time I go to his house in the summer, we watch the Cubs games and he would always make me root for them. So, it stuck and now they're my favorite team." I say.
"Well, are the Nationals at least your second favorite?" Aaron asks.
"Yeah, I guess you could say they're my second favorite team." I say. Aaron rolls his eyes as I smile. I look at the Menu as our waitress walks up to our booth.
"What can I get for you two tonight?" She asks.
"I'll have two pancakes and a vanilla milkshake." Aaron says.
