Jamie's POV

The sunlight burns through the glass of a small window built just above the sink and grazes into the pores of my skin.

I flutter my eyes open and take in the view of where I am.

"Great. Its 8:30 already and I'm late for college." I scoff sarcastically as I look up at the bathroom clock.

I begin to get up, when I catch my appearance in the mirror. Caressing my naked body and mentally stroking away the pain I have living under the surface of my skin. I can almost feel its plead to be acknowledged.

I stare at the razor across the room leaning inside a translucent pot.

'Maybe it will help, one last time won't hurt.' I think to myself as I trace along the previous scars printed across my wrist.

"Its only art." I smile to myself.

I put the razor back to its original place contradicting my words before and turn around to unlock the door.

I quickly run down the hallway and head straight into my room to find something to wear. I throw on a plain white t-shirt and a pair of black skinny jeans followed by some white pumps. My hair is still ruffled and messy from last night that I hardly have time to fix it, so I pull the hair belt out shaking my head in order to feel more loose and free, allowing myself to appear presentable.

I throw on my grey parka, and grab my backpack from my desk.

The slit clothes from last night catch my eye as I begin to leave, a flash of last nights events run through my mind.

Without hesitation, I grab the clothes off the floor and walk down the hallway.

As I get ready to walk down the stairs, I peer into my fathers room and find him snoring just at the edge of his bed with a bottle of vodka hanging from his fingertips.

I ignore the sight and run out the house slamming the door behind me, knowing it would wake him with a painful hangover.

I throw the clothes into the big black bin outside my door for the rubbish men to collect, and start my journey to college.

"Its an ordinary day, just like every other day. Suck it up Jamie, everyone has a bad life not only you." I tell myself as I stick my arm out for the bus to stop for me.

-------

I jumped off the bus and saw Iris my other best friend. She caught my eye and ran over to me appearing as her unique self with her green dip dyed hair gathered over her head to one side.

"Jaye! So you heard about Ariyana?" She asks as we walk through the double doors of the building.

"Ariyana?" I asked quizzically.

"Short girl, skinny, purple hair dye and very dainty." she chuckles and looks at me.

"Oh her! She's in my English class, she's never spoken to me but she seems cool." I politely reply as I look down and see a banana peel on the floor which someone had obviously failed to put in the bin.

"Yep that's her, but yeah her older sister got pregnant and ran away with her boyfriend, leaving Ariyana alone in the house with her father." she looks at me to respond.

"So? What's wrong with that? I mean staying alone with her father that is.." I defend putting the banana peel into the bin.

"Nothing, its just don't you remember what he did to Ariyana's older sister when she was our age." Iris looks worried "I mean it went around the whole school everyone knows" she continues.

"Well sometimes rumours are there for a reason to see who would fall for such bullshit. We shouldn't even be believing it if it has nothing to do with us Iris." I scold as we walk into our Media Studies class together.

"I know Jaye, its just I feel worried for her, like maybe I could do something to help or be some company?" she pulls a seat out next to me.

"Iris, I'm sure the last thing she'd want is some unknown sticking their nose into her business." I end the conversation as she looks away.

"So class! Today is as promised, the day for you all to begin your assignments. Pick a partner and plan out a storyline to do with absolutely anything! But you must have a main message as most of the marks will be based on your planning. Also you must direct and produce a short film using your planning and all must be original. You will receive your grades a week from the deadline." Ms Fay instructs.

Iris looks at me, "so what the hell do we do." she quietly laughs.

I frown at her lack of focus then explain the task again.

"Alright that seems easy, so I'll come round yours after college?" She asks flicking through the specification.

"Ah can't, my dads having his colleagues over and they're gonna have some important business meeting." I lie aware of the fact my father is unemployed and has no colleagues.

"Jamie, your dad literally hogs the house! I haven't been round yours in ages." She whines tugging at my sleeve.

"I know and I'm sorry, but technically it is his house." I fake laugh and involuntarily pull her into a hug. Something in me just needed a hug right at that moment.

"Hey hey hey!" She whispers softly in my ear. "What's with the force of affection." I can feel her warm smile on my shoulder.

"Oh sorry, its just I feel as if I haven't seen you in ages." I lie again, knowing that's all I'm good at.

"Its fine babe, we'll just work at my house because its always free unlike some peoples." She indirects me with a small smirk as she pulls away from the hug, but I couldn't care less because she's all I have left.
