Can I Ask You Something?

Hawks shifted uncomfortably.
Dabi was sitting across from him on the park bench.
The grass around them was a lush green, making the villain's scars and dark clothing stand out.
He had no clue why the dark haired man had dragged him all they way to the damn park where they met as kids but hey, he wasn't complaining. It was beautiful out and no one was there to bother them.
Birds were singing, flowers were blooming, and the sun was shining.
He fanned out his wings, welcoming the gentle breeze as it ruffled his feathers.
Dabi cleared his throat. "Keigo?"
He turned a lazy gaze over. "Yes?"
"Can I ask you something real quick?" He had a hand in his pocket.
"You just did."
"Come on, be serious for me. Please?"
"Okay, okay." The hero held up his hands in mock surrender. "But after this I have a surprise for you."
Dabi bit his lip, glancing down. "Why don't you just go first? My question can wait."
He was bouncing his leg up and down. That's odd. He normally only does that when he's nervous.
He wouldn't be nervous now though. No way.
What could he possibly be worried about when it was just the two of them?
"Well-" Hawks tugged at his feathers. "The Commission approached me."
Dabi's face paled. "Yeah?"
"They're assigning me abroad to look into some suspicious activity."
The other man's eyes dulled and he stopped bouncing his leg. "Oh."
Poor baby.
"Don't worry though!" He brought his boyfriend into a tight hug. "You've been assigned to come with me! And no, you can't say no because it was either this or you go to jail."

Toshinori smiled as young Midoriya bounded up, a grin plastered on his face.
"Hey All Might!"
"Hello, Young Midoriya!"
They walked down the pathway outside of UA in a comfortable silence before Izuku looked over at him.
"All Might?"
He stopped, looking down at his student. "Yes?"
"You mentioned a few others would be joining us on our mission- who are they?"
Toshinori smiled softly, ruffling the boy's green hair before continuing down the path.
"You'll find out soon."

Dabi felt vomit rising in the back of his throat, threatening to push its way out.
"No. No way. Are you sure Endeavor has to be the other guy for the assignment?"
Hawks kissed his hand, giving him a sympathetic look.
He didn't even know why Dabi hated Endeavor...
"It'll be fine, Dabster! There's two others joining our team too. You won't even have to talk to Number One!"
Yeah right.
The last thing he wanted to do right now was go spend who knows how long on a whole other continent with his dad and some random fuckers.
He brushed his thumb idly over the small box in his pocket.
Guess I'll have to put this on hold.
Hawks ran a hand through his hair, crossing his legs. "I hope you're not mad at me."
"I'm not."
"Good. Now, what did you want to ask me?"
Dabi felt his heart sink.
He couldn't tell the truth. He just couldn't.
"I forgot."
The hero chuckled as he pulled him up to his feet. "You're such a dumbass."
Dabi forced a small laugh as he walked alongside his bird.
"Yeah, a dumbass."

Hey Birdie.

I was going to pop the big question today but you told me that we have a mission.
I guess we're leaving in two weeks.
That's so soon.
I don't want to go but you seem pretty excited so I'll support you.

I'll just ask you while we're in America.
It'll be fine.
I'll just have to get you away from Endeavor and the other two for a few minutes.
What could go wrong?

I still can't believe I'm going on a trip with heroes.
Not even low rankers!
I'm going with a past number one that I've tried to kill, the current number one who I kinda want to kill, and number two who I frequently kill in the sheets.

And then some kid I guess is coming too.

Anyways.
I really hope you'll be excited when I ask you my big question.
It'd be really awkward if you turned me down.
But you wouldn't do that.

Hawks smiled as he looked over at his boyfriend.
It was so nice to be able to come home at the end of the day and be with him.
Honestly, it wouldn't really be home without Dabi.
The hero couldn't help but think that this would be the perfect life to live forever.
But one thing had been weighing heavily on his mind the last couple days...

What would have happened if he had succeeded in taking his own life a few months ago?

Would it really be all that different?
What would happen to Touya if Hawks got killed in the service of others?
He didn't like to think about that.
He burried his face in Dabi's chest, trying to shut his mind off.
Even when the villain had begun stroking his back, the shivers along his spine couldn't distract him.
