As soon as the words escaped his lips Dabi was already bolting off. Why would he choose to wait around at a time like this? His beloved bird- his world was out there and he needed help!
And that's when it hit him.
He needed extra back up for when they did get him back to safety. Just a sort of extra measure to ensure he was well. So, he made a call.
...
As soon as Jin had made it back to the living world to check in on things he knew something had gone horribly wrong. Normally he would seek out Toga or Hawks' soul and follow their energy trail until he found them. But this time, he'd chosen Dabi because for some reason, Hawks' energy wasn't there. It was most likely just an error on his part, but he was sure he would find them both together.
He was in the hotel and honestly just ready to go lay on the bed and relax, listening to couple interact and make sure they were okay before heading off to other places.
Maybe track down his parents again.. who knows? Maybe they had passed by now though... But if that were the case he was sure he could find them elsewhere though, right?
Well, his plans didn't go very well.
Once he was in the hallway where the travelers were staying, he was met with the awful pounding of footsteps echoing down throughout the place. And who came bolting through? None other than Dabi.
For the most part, it didn't surprise Jin to see three people chasing after him- they had become familiar faces with all the time he'd spent joining them on the trip. Poor Dabi had probably just hurt himself or caused trouble and they were trying to get him back before more drama could start.
Hawks would probably clear things up any second now.
Any second.
He jumped a little as one by one the men ran through him. It hurt– emotionally, that is. It was just another reminder that he was no longer of that world no matter how hard he had been trying to get back to it..
Just visiting invisibily wasn't the same at all.
That being said, there was apparently no time to feel all sad over his own death again because everyone was running away from something. So, obviously he couldn't just stay there and wait to see what was coming for them!
No way was he about to stare at some freaky monster that had Dabi running. That man never ran!
Come to think of it, Jin didn't even know if Dabi had run to come to his rescue. Maybe more of a speed walk..
He couldn't really blame him though.
As he raced after the set of men, only one thought came to him:
Where is Hawks?
There was no time to question such things though, so he ran faster.
Ran like his life depended on it– even though his life was over.
As soon as they reached the outside of the building and he'd caught up with the group, Jin could make out parts of the conversation. All he could do was hope to get a rough understanding of what was going on.
"Wait! What's going on? Why are running?"
"Yeah- I don't understand—"
"There's no time to worry about it!"
He froze a little, watching Dabi grip his head, tearing out clumps of hair as he spoke into his phone. The rest of the group was arguing amongst themselves.
...
It was nauseating, really, to run once more after he'd already spent most of the night running. But who cares? Keigo was out there! He was out there in the cold all alone!
The only thing worse than the burden of that knowledge though, was stopping and waiting outside the building.
He'd dialed Aika Sato's number and it had taken five fucking calls to get an answer (damn time differences-) but when he got one, he had very frantically tried to explain the situation. Of course, it hadn't helped that the poor girl on the other line sounded incredibly confused and asked him to repeat himself multiple times. And all the background noise?
Oh.. let's not get started on that.
The arguing of the heroes around him, the fact that they seemed to care so little when his heart was breaking right in front of them, the way he knew he was never going to get to marry the one person he had ever truly loved- it was all far too much.
He sank to his knees, holding the sides of his head as though he wanted to crush his own skull in. In a way, he did wish to, but he couldn't. Not yet at least.
He gripped handfuls of his hair, pulling it sharply.
Clack!
His phone fell to the ground, the screen cracking on the cold concrete. As he glanced down, the screen showed the smiling image of his beloved bird. And then the screen went dark.
...
I see it now, Master.
I see what it is that you have wished of me.
I understand now my divine purpose.
I now see what the odd attachment to Dabi is.
This is it. The end is here.
