roughly four and a half years before...
"So, where do we go from here?" Friday asked, wondering what fate was waiting for her. She was a volunteer now. Things were gonna be significantly more riskier than before
"We go back to your school, of course!" Bea answered, "is it true that you have a best friend that helps you solve mysteries?"
It was true, Melanie was amazing (and more importantly, her best friend), but was Beatrice implying that she would recruit Mel? Friday had been informed that it wasn't an easy thing. What if Melanie was put in more danger?
"Yeah, Melanie is more intelligent than she puts on," Friday replied with a nervous smile, "are you going to recruit her?"
"No, I don't think I know enough about her" Beatrice looked at her with a warm smile, "so, if you want, you are."

Friday and Beatrice arrived at Highcrest after hitching a taxi ride. They both managed to muster up enough money for the ride, but the real challenge would be sneaking Beatrice in. Since Edgar retired from the role of headmaster, security had gotten better. This was going to be a bit of a struggle.
"How do you think we could sneak you in?" Friday questioned, "perhaps we could walk around the back of the school and climb the rope ladder I've got stationed there. Ooh, maybe we could rent a row boat and-"
"Friday," Beatrice interrupted, "don't worry about me. You go in, act normal, and then I'll meet you at your dormitory."
"Are you sure? You don't even know my room number," it suddenly dawned on Friday that she kind of just trusted that a random stranger was telling her the truth, in the middle of the airport while she was in a vulnerable position, because said stranger seemed intelligent and had a kind smile.
"Yeah, of course! Now, go on," Beatrice nudged Friday toward the gates. Friday walked in, and resisted the urge to turn around and see if Beatrice was still there. Now I have to find Melanie.
