CHAPTER TWELVE
I once again, wake up before Nala. I quickly bathe and put on a black shirt. I realize I want to give Nala some space today. After what happened yesterday, I am sure she does not want to see me. When I get downstairs, I receive a call from Carson.
"Morning" I mutter into the phone.
"Morning" Carson replies.
"Is something wrong?" I ask, sensing the apprehension in his voice.
"Yes and no"
"What do you mean by that? Get straight to the point." I say, already starting to lose my patience.
"Chill, man. I think I know who the traitor is"
"Who is the motherfucker?" I ask, my temper rising.
Carson pauses for a moment, and says, "Kim".
"Kim" I can't believe what I am hearing.
"Yes, Kim" he reiterates.
"I am coming right now" I state quickly.
"Won't you take Nala to school?" Carson asks.
"Okay," Carson replies, and I hang up. I have given the necessary orders, and Nala will be adequately taken care of.
"Ben, protect her, okay?" I order him.
"Of course, now go" he urges.
I leave the house for Carson's.
The door shoots open the moment I walk up the front porch.
"Are you sure Nala won't mind?" he asks for the umpteenth time.
"She hates me, Carson. I am sure she will be happy I won't be the one to take her to school."
"Don, "Carson sighs, "I already told you to talk things out"
"Enough of me now," I say, "Why do you suspect Kim?"
"All of our clues are pointing to her. This whole thing started right after you broke up with her and found Nala. Maybe she is jealous, or she is simply being forced to do it." Carson explains.
"Okay, Carson. We need to investigate this whole thing, and get someone to keep an eye on Kim, okay? He nods, and I leave for my office.
On getting to my office, I am about to start formulating my secret attack plan when someone barges into my office.
"What do you want?" I ask in irritation.
"You know exactly what I want," Kim says, caressing every part of my body.
"Kim, leave" I command angrily.
"I know you are saying all these because of the little brat you have in your house," she says, glaring at me.
"Nala is not a brat, she is my mate," I growl, terribly annoyed by the way she speaks about Nala.
"Don, we all know she is young; you are embarrassed to show her to everyone."
I see the truth in what she says. I haven't shown Nala to anybody. Does she also believe that I am ashamed of her?
"I am not ashamed of her, I am just giving her time to adjust to the whole idea.
"She's not worth fighting for"
"That's it, Kim. I won't let you come here and speak to my mate in this manner" I push her out of my office and she scoffs.
"Fine, but watch out" she spins and leaves the building.
I run my hands through my hair furiously. I am really messed up.
I check my phone for the time and realize that I am more than thirty minutes late to pick up Nala; I did not ask Ben to do it. I drive quickly to her school. I scan the building, but I don't see any sign of her. I decide to look for her friends, the ones I met the other day. I am fortunate enough to find them."Excuse me, do you know where Nala is?" I ask.
"Oh yes, she ran from you," the one I know to be Willow says.
"Ran, but why?" I question, not wanting to believe what I was hearing. This is my fear. She can't keep up with me, and she has left just like the rest of them did. No one would ever love a heartless monster like me. What was I expecting anyway?
"Why? Are you really asking? You scare the living hell out of her and you are here asking why! " Willow exclaims. I knew she was being disrespectful, but I can get what Nala thinks of me from them.
"How?" I am trying not to get angry. They aren't respecting me the way they should.
"You yell a lot," Sheldon states.
"You're scary when you are angry and you're always angry, so..." one of the guys adds.
"And you are not caring," the other guy says. Wow, that is what my mate thinks of me. If she thinks of me that way, then what do other people think of me?
"I'm sorry I made your friend feel that way but did she really leave me?" I ask, dreading the answer.
"Well, we don't know," Willow confesses. I release the breath I didn't realize I was holding. I quickly leave the school building, searching my mind desperately for where she might be. After ten minutes, it hits me.
Her mum.
I speed to her house, and I approach the building. When I am about to enter, she is crying and talking to her mum."Mum, he is a monster. He scares me, yells at me, complains about what I do." Hearing those words come out of her mouth really hurt me.
"Next time, ask for permission before you come here," her mum says.
"There will be no next time," I say, making my presence known, but I still act like I didn't hear the hurtful things she said about me.
Nala moves closer to her Mum the moment I enter.
"What are you doing here?" I ask, wanting to be sure she isn't planning to run away.
"I'm sorry... I..." she starts.
"Answer my question."
Errr..... I.....really missed my mum," she stutters.
"Why didn't you tell me?" I am extremely confused.
"How?" she asks, and I wondered what she means by that.
"Talking," I say, like it is the obvious thing in the world.
"I mean, how do you expect me to ask you when all you do is yell at me and scare me?" she spits out.
"Nala," her mum scolds her, "that's disrespectful."
"She's sorry," her mum said, and I smile.
"It's fine, Mrs. Price. I am happy she is talking. This is the first time," I say. "Let's go."
Nala stands up.
"Thank you," her mother says.
"As I said, it's fine, Mrs. Price." I and Nala leave the house together.
