Chapter 11 - Dance Dance (Yes, it's a reference to the Day6 song)

The first week was pretty much like the first day. We lost all of our sets. I kept sitting with Nekoma. The girl managers from the other teams and Kiyoko, Yachi, and I were all in the same room. After everybody had gone to sleep, I would leave the room and go use the empty gyms to practice dancing. Even though I was here to learn the language, I have to keep training so I don't lose any skills.

Mostly, I kept the volume pretty low because I had the gym doors open so it wouldn't get hot and I could hear anyone coming. Tonight, though, I decided to close them. I turned up the volume from my laptop. I decided to learn a new dance, and scrolled through a few practices before settling on Chungha's Snapping. I had always loved the choreo, but had never actually learned it.

I let the music flow from the speakers. I could feel the beat thumping in my chest alongside my heart as I let the rhythm control me. It felt good to have complete authority over every fibre of my body, to be able to do exactly what I wanted myself to. I was aware of every muscle, of every motion that I made. I was in the zone. I couldn't tell how long I had been practicing; maybe one hour, maybe four. I turned the music off to get some water from my bag, but something wasn't right. I turned back around. A face was watching me in the window.

I almost screamed. It ducked down. Footsteps crunched on a few loose pieces of sidewalk outside. They stopped outside the door. Was it a serial killer? Oh my god, what if it's Satan? They opened the door.

"(Y/N), why are you up right now?" It was Ennoshita. "It's twelve-thirty in the morning."

"I'm practicing. I didn't have time to do it earlier, so I dance after everyone has gone to sleep," I replied. "Why are you up?"

"I got hungry."

Wait. So he just went to go eat in the middle of the night? That's...not normal.

"So you got up and left the room to go eat."

"Yes."

"Ennoshita...do you do that often?"

"Yes." No hesitation. Woah.

"That's not healthy. You should go to sleep."

"You should, too."

"I don't need sleep. Sleep is for the weak."

"Suit yourself." He walked over to my laptop and sat down against the wall next to it.

"What are you doing?"

"I wanna watch." But if he watches, I'M GONNA MESS UP.

"No."

"Why?"

"Because I'm not good."

"Yes, you are. I was watching you before." His eyes widened as he realized what he said. "I'm not a creep, though! I'm sorry. Don't kick me out."

"It's fine. I know you aren't."

"So can I watch?" Ughhhhhh.

"Yeah. Sure, I guess. Can you hit play?" He smiled and did so. It actually went okay. My hair cooperated for once and did what I wanted it to do; that's a plus. Whenever a part with any hip came on, though, I kinda just did it and laughed nervously. The song finished. Success.

"Woah! You're really good." A/N: Aw that's my boy-

"Thanks." I grabbed my water and sat down next to him. A draft blew in from the window. When I finished taking a drink, I noticed him still watching me.

"(Y/N), why are you dancing?"

"What do you mean?"

"I don't know. Like, why are you dancing right now if it's past midnight? Isn't that kind of a random time? Do you have to? Are you part of a dance group?"

I shrugged and avoided eye contact. "I dunno."

"So are you?"

I sighed. "Ennoshita...it's not a big deal."

"Okay. Then can you tell me?" He's just not giving up, is he.

"Look, it's not really a secret, but I'd prefer if you didn't spread this around too much. I'm a trainee at a Kpop company. They wanted me to learn Japanese, so I transferred to Karasuno from a school in Korea." I waited for his reaction. There actually wasn't much of one.

"Woah. That's cool." There were a few beats where neither of us said anything. I watched a moth flutter around one of the gym lights. "We should probably go to sleep now."

"Yeah." We walked back to the main building in comfortable silence.
