Chapter 15 - The Email
The rest of training camp went well. We didn't win much, but we learned a lot. The coaches even organized a barbecue at the end. That was nice of them. I didn't lose Nekoma as friends, and we didn't become any less close. Even though I had drifted from Karasuno, I had come back, and we were good friends, perhaps even better than before. I felt good. I was in a good place. A few weeks had passed since the end of it. That's when the email came.
I was finishing cleaning up the gym. The net and volleyballs were all put away. All that was left to do was to clean the floor with the dust mops, and we were almost done.
"You guys go to the club room, I'll finish cleaning up here!"
"Are you sure, (Y/N)?"
"Yep! I'm almost done."
"Thank you!"
I went up and down along the length of the gym. Putting the mop away, I pulled out my phone. There was a new email. Probably spam or something. I tapped the app. It was from my company. I felt a sinking feeling in my stomach. I opened the email.
Dear (L/N) (F/N),
We hope this email finds you well. We have decided to bring you back to Korea. Your Japanese has improved greatly on your weekly language tests. You're ready to come back and continue to train here.
You will now be put in a smaller group with a handful of other trainees. This will hopefully be JYP's next girl group.
Your flight leaves on XX/XX. We have sent you a plane ticket digitally. Please arrive at least an hour early. A taxi will arrive to pick you up in the morning.
We hope you enjoyed Japan. Thank you for continuing to work hard. Have a safe flight.
JYP Entertainment
So... that's it. It's over now. I've been to a few places before...but something about Japan felt different. I'm going to remember this place forever. I'm going to remember the people I've met here forever. I just know.
"(Y/N)!" Kageyama called out to me from the gym doorway. He smiled at me. He's been starting to smile more. I smiled back. I'm never forgetting him. We had never dated, but our friendship wasn't exactly a regular one. We were really close. He's very special to me. "Ready to go?"
"Yeah."
He looked at me. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah! Why do you ask?"
"You just seem different. That's all." I took a deep breath. No more running. No more dodging around questions.
"Actually...I just got an email. My company is flying me back to Seoul to continue my training." I saw his face fall. "What's your phone number? I want to be able to talk to you still." He gave it to me. "Thank you."
He reached out and pulled me close to him in a hug, resting his head on mine. "No, thank you. You taught me to smile more. You taught me that it's alright to let someone make you feel really happy. You taught me what it's like to love someone." He started to shake a little and his breathing became uneven. Was Kageyama crying? I was going to pull away, but he held me tighter against him. We stayed like that for a while. Just me and him.
"I love you." I stepped back. "Thank you for being in my life." He took my hand. We walked until the road split and we had to go our separate ways.
