I land softly in the back yard, Dargon and the other Slytherins beside me in the morning of Nanaimo. All the Slytherins are uncharacteristically quiet which brings a bad feeling to me, but finally someone speaks up.
"As far as human homes go, this ain't too bad." Jandro says as I shrug and say, "Thanks, but it's no longer my home."
"So, where to?" Dixon questions, and I look up to my broken window before turning back to everyone. There's just Dixon, Jandro, Jario and Dargon left, other than Julissa and Koray. Huntly's lifeless eyes flash through my mind simultaneously with Jericho's face, and I swallow just a little harder.
"Dargon and I will fly through my shattered window. I could probably fit two of you in my closet with good sleeping space, and maybe two in Carlley's room, if you so wished." I offer, forgetting that everyone is supposed to hide, except for Dargon.
"Take Jario with you, he might prove useful. We will hide in the trees and await the day you bring her out, and by herself." Dixon instructs before flying away with Jandro. They hide in the massive oak trees, the dark branches obscuring them from sight.
"Well then." Jario says as he turns to us, "Shall we go to your room?"
"Sure." I nod my head before flying into the air, squeezing through the shattered windowpane. The glass edges brush harshly against my massive wings as I manage to fit through mostly unscathed.
Dargon comes next, and I know from his size he'll have a bit of a struggle. He gets his legs in, but his broad shoulders get jammed in the window. He mumbles something incoherent before reaching out to grab my hand, and he pulls himself through, the glass scraping along his massive muscles and huge wings. The loose glass from the window falls to the ground, adding to the growing pile.
He leans over to me as Jario comes next and whispers softly, "This is why I don't live in small houses. It's the stupid windows."
I laugh quietly before Jario grabs my hand and yanks himself through, also getting scratched from the window. He shakes himself off as I hear footsteps, not the stride of a tiger, and I hiss, "Jario, in the closet. Dargon, get under my bed. Jerod's coming, and try to keep quiet."
Both Slytherins slide into their requested positions as I mutter, "I wish for me, Dargon and Jario to be humans."
The pain envelopes me as I shrink back to my human body, and once the short agony goes, I rush to the back of my door to rip my white housecoat off the hook. I throw it over my bare body as the door opens, and Jerod's green eyes look in surprise at me.
"You're back." He sighs in relief as he pulls me into a tight hug, "I didn't like leaving things the way they were."
"Neither did I." I nod my head at my older brother as we pull away from each other. I smile at him and say, "In order to make it up to you, I've brought something."
"What is it?" Jerod questions as I teasingly move him out of my room, and I respond, "You'll have to let me get it ready first, and give me a chance to explain."
"Will do." Jerod nods his head before I close my door and lock it. I walk back into the main part of my room and grab two pairs of sweatpants from my drawers, both black. I search for the biggest pair of shirts I have, and I find one grey, one a dark blue.
"I'm assuming you're both naked?" I ask before Jario replies with a muffled voice, "Not any longer."
The closet door opens as Jario stands in one of my dresses, and he says with a sassy voice as Dargon sticks his head out from under my bed, "Yes, girl. So gorgeous."
I can't contain the laughter that bursts from my lips, but it's overtaken by Dargon's throaty guffaw. The sound makes my tongue burst out fizzing, and I watch as Dargon twists his head to look at me. His gold eyes lock onto my lips, and I give him a shy smile.
