The Amendment

Chapter Three

A sharp pain jolts me awake as I almost scream in horror, but a clawed hand goes over my mouth. Dark brown eyes with almost blinding blue and white streaks gaze down in hatred at me, and with a low growl, Dagon orders, "Get up, Jailynn. It's time for you to learn why you are so abhorred here."

I nod my head as the pain in my side ceases, and I look down to see one of Dagon's claws back in the re-opened wound from yesterday. I watch as he pulls his talon out of me, and I put my hand to my side to block the blood from coming out as fast.

"You weren't waking up, so I decided to get you out of your slumber the quickest way possible. The rest of the Slytherins are going out for a hunt, but since you're here, I can't go. Your punishment is me." Dagon yanks me to my feet and then soldiers me out of his room and to the grand table. He throws me into Jario's seat and he spins the chair sideways to look down at me. He clamps his hands on the armrests as he leans over me, looking directly into my eyes. His brown eyes radiate anger, and anguish? I'm surprised I can see that emotion in his intricate orbs.

As I look closer, I can see the hurt in him bleeding out of his eyes that seem to swallow me in their depths, and I breathe out as slowly as he does. His cold breath blows over my face and brings goosebumps to my skin as I swallow hard.

"You are the reason I am this. This. . . monster." Dagon growls as his knuckles on the armrests start turning white, "You're the reason I am furious all the time. You're my problem."

I nod, unable to do much else. I feel myself start to tremble under the hatred that seeps out of his pores, and I hardly dare to inhale air.

"The reason for all of this is your parents. Your real parents, Madesa and Mason Taffern. That is the reason you're not as close with Carlley and Brinx as you were with Jerod. You know you are different from the girls, I can see it in your eyes." Dagon says as his face seems closer than ever, and the rage that oozes out of his eyes is almost intoxicating. I feel as if his head's going to explode if he get's any angrier; the vein running by his temple is turning green and inflating, and his jaw is clenched so tight he might break his teeth.

I nod slowly as the information comes crashing down on me; how can Maxwell and Roxine not be my parents? What happened to Madesa and Mason if they are my real parents? How does Dagon know all of this?! Am I not as close with Brinx as I thought? Do Brinx and Carlley know I'm not their sister?

"You have permission to speak, Jailynn. I can see you have questions." Dagon says before I burst out, "How do you know all of this? Why are my parents gone? What have I done to you? I've never even met you before!"

"First off, I know all of this because your parents killed mine. Madesa and Mason were scientists, and my parents were caught by them. I have no idea how, but they were. Your parents experimented on mine until they died, taking out organs and severing their wings from my Father's and Mother's back. Madesa and Mason are dead because I killed them when I heard the news. I was only five, and after that night, I was dead-set on killing your entire family. I was the one who killed your babysitter who was looking after Jerod, though that is not what some people think. I took him away because I was going to wait until he was older to kill him. I decided I was going to murder him on the way back from Vancouver, and when I passed over Nanaimo and saw you, I picked you up.

"As for what you have done to me, I met you when you were younger. It was when I found out where my parents were. I snuck through your house until I heard a baby giggling. I turned around and saw you, with a part of my wing in your mouth. I snatched it from you, but you were still smiling. I wandered off to find my parents when I heard you start to cry, and you crawled after me. I forced you back and away, locking you in a room. Then I took your parents lives." Dagon explains without emotion, "You were entrusted to Maxwell and Roxine in your parents Will's, because Roxine was your Father's sister. You've been living with them since, and in order for you to feel safe, they brainwashed you, made you forget me."
