XXI.❦ "An other time."
The French literature teacher looked up. "Une masterpiece de Victor Hugo! What a king." He breathed out dreamily and Olivia watched the life in his eyes, as if he was completely in love with the man that lived centuries ago.
"Qui a une idée qu'est-ce que il dit?" Oliver, sitting next to Olivia, raised his hand. "Oliver?"
"He was talking about the devil and how he was able to manipulate people so he could take their souls."
"Indeed, mais comment?" A girl in the front raised her hand and Olivia sighed deeply as her eyes fell onto the top of the brown-haired girl named Gabriëlla; she was the goody-goody in two shoes walking almost 24/7 behind the teachers.
"Une histoire, a story." She spoke proudly, sitting up straighter in her seat. "A made-up one."
"Oui, what did he tell the monks and the knight? Yes, Mr Peters?"
"That he has a hard time and that there are no concerns left for him anymore."
"Génial! But he did use another thing to manipulate the people. Has anyone noticed?"
It stayed awfully quiet in the classroom, everyone's eyes scanning the words once again. "Mrs Wallace? Any idea?"
Her teeth fell onto her bottom lip. She knew this, she'd read his work. It was there in her head, but the thoughts about Mr Styles who had once again stolen her sanity away from her were in the front, gnawing away her brain.
"Mrs Wallace, I thought you'd read this for the last book report."
"I did."
"Well?" Olivi refused to look up, but she felt everyone's eyes on her. Her hands turned clammy when she felt the watch on her wrist vibrate once, signalling an incoming message. She breathed in and out.
"I can't remember." She slowly got the nerve to look up and meet her teacher's eyes. He was frowning slightly, but in the moment her eyes met his, his mouth fell agape lightly and forehead became less tensed.
"Malheureusement. The devil changed into an other physical form to match the human's form. Mr Sl-" A loud bell rang through the room and the Olivia looked at the teacher to see him purse his lips into a line. "We'll continue this tomorrow. I want you all to write the story the Devil told the people to manipulate them and hand it in tomorrow! The grade you'll receive will be important for the course. Au revoir!"
As soon as she could, Olivia logged out of her account before quickly exiting the classroom. To check, she pushed her sleeve up and looked onto the watch, seeing she had a new message.
