Every nerve in your body was firing warning signals to your brain as you stood in that poorly lit bathroom, back towards the one person you hoped to never see again. Slowly shuffling your feet, you turned around, part of you wondering if you didn’t acknowledge her presence, maybe she would disappear.
“Tilly.” You stated emotionless.
“Nice to see you too, y/n” she joked, flashing you a toothy smile. Memories of walking in on her and Luke flitted sporadically through your mind, most of them you had tried to block out because of the pain they caused you. Opening the door to the hotel room you and Tilly were sharing to find her on the bed you were sharing, along with Luke, the guy you had also apparently been sharing with her for the past month, as you later found out from her as she pleaded for your forgiveness. Your anger bubbled inside you as you stood there, hands clenched in to fists. ‘Pull yourself together, y/n, be the bigger person. Don’t cry. Do NOT cry,” you mentally commanded yourself. You managed to pull your face in to a half smile, one that was definitely not sincere, but seemed to suffice for Tilly who reached in to hug you. Your body remained stiff as she squeezed you, like she was trying to extract the happiness from your soul.
“I have missed you so so much.” She said, smile still plastered on her face.
“Yea… Um, Tilly… What are you doing here?” You inquired, racking your brain, trying to come up with any reason other than the one you knew was the truth. Her smile faltered momentarily, but she picked back up with her bubbly personality immediately.
“Well… I’m here with Lukey. We’re a thing now.” Her tone was tight and both of you were aware of just how uncomfortable the other was. Your fists tightened and your jaw clenched.
“You’re what” you said through gritted teeth. “You’re a THING?!” You said, emphasizing the last word, face now scrunched in to a scowl.
“Yea, we uh well after the whole incident we kinda decided that we should give it a go… Luke’s idea, not mine.” She protested.
“Oh of course. Ya because that’s what people do after they are caught cheating and one gets kicked out of their band. They strike up a god damn relationship.” You let out a laugh of frustration as you turned on your heels to leave.
“Wait, y/n-“
“No, don’t tell me to wait. I didn’t think you could get any more selfish, but apparently I was wrong.” You spat, turning and walking out of the bathroom, leaving Tilly in a state of shock at your outburst. You normally weren’t one to get angry, and especially not one to vocalize about it. As you stomped out of the bathroom you immediately found Luke, sitting on his own, staring at you. You wasted no time in going to confront him.
“You dick!” You spat as you reached him. “You absolute dick! What’s wrong with you?!” His cheeks were bright red as he looked up at you. “How could you?! Not only do you cheat on me with my bandmate, but then you have the audacity to bring her with you to a tour that you knew, God damn well, that I was going to be on!” You were now extremely worked up and your stomach felt like it was tying itself in knots. Your eyes began to prickle and you felt like you were back in that hotel room, Luke stammering to find words to explain, except this time he actually had his pants on. “Y/n I didn’t want you to find out from her… It’s not what you think.” He tried. “How do you know what I think?? It’s not like you ever cared enough to try and get to know me.” You stated. His expression dropped and he looked like you had just slapped him in the face. “I….” He tried to find the words. “Yea, just like last time.” You were trying to hold back the tears now, wanting nothing more than for this to be a joke. “We aren’t together. She came and surprised me, I didn’t know.” “Yea I’m sure that’s true. Screw you, Luke! Screw you and the fact that you think you can treat me like crap and then pretend like you were the victim!” He looked as if he was about to cry, right then and there. “And screw you for pretending like you ever cared about me just so your fans would take your side!” You momentarily thought he might have actually cared about you, but as you let these words slip past your lips his face shifted and his eyebrows furrowed. “Don’t you ever try and tell me I lied about caring so my fans would sympathize. You think you are just this wonderful little angel that can’t do anything wrong! You aren’t perfect! Get off your high horse!” He was now yelling back at you, everyone in the vicinity trying to pretend you weren’t both engaged in a screaming match. “This is just like you. Have fun with your little girlfriend. Maybe this time when you cheat you could at least have the decency to take responsibility for your inability to be a caring human being.” And with that stormed away, not waiting for his response. Pulling out your phone you typed in your password, fingers slamming against the screen. As you pressed call you felt a slight tap on your shoulder. You whipped your head around expecting it to be Luke, but were instead met by Ricky. He looked down at you sympathetically. Pulling you in for a hug, he placed a kiss on the top of your head, “Sorry about the bad start, kiddo.” You gave a slight sniffle in response, not even knowing how you felt at the moment. “If it makes you feel any better, I’m pretty sure You Me at 6 just got here.” You looked up at him, letting out a slight giggle. You both had collectively fangirled over them since before you had met them, but last year during the end of your UK tour when you were doing an interview on BBC radio, they were brought on as surprise guests, seeing as it was well known that you two were fans, and you immediately clicked with them. You had especially clicked with Josh, him being only 4 years older than you, and he had become like a brother to you. “Oh cool, I haven’t seen him in fore-” “The Entanglement, time to starting warming up for your set!” You heard someone yell. “-ever.” You finished jokingly. Nudging your shoulder with his own densely tattooed one , Ricky headed towards backstage to make sure his drums were assembled properly, adjusting his beanie as he went, you following closely behind. As you ran threw your song “Swallowed by The Night” for the third time, you felt yourself relax, feeling like you would be able to hit the high note this time “…And give up on the pain inside I just wanna live for the most And stop being ghost A I’ll be swallowed by the niii-” once again your voice cracked. Throwing your hands up in frustration, you let out a loud groan a little too close to the microphone, the sound echoing from the speakers, causing those around the stage to cringe. “Woah woah there, y/n!” You heard a thickly accented voice say from off stage. As you strained your eyes to look in the direction of the voice, and the blinding, you spotted Josh, walking towards you with a smile on his face. From behind you, you heard Ricky gasp. “Oh hey,” you laughed. “That was beautifully, really just great. You guys should add that to your set list.” He said to your bandmates as they all snickered. “Shut up, J” you smiled, as he pulled you into a hug. “Need some help?” He offered. “From you? I don’t know, are you qualified to give advice in singing?” You asked, trying to keep from smiling. “Ah well, only had 4 albums and several Kerrang! awards, so I don’t know either. Now if you are done being a sarcastic little shit, I would gladly help you out.” “Fine, I guess I could use some advice from YOU.” You smirked. “Ha ha ha, so funny. Ok now when you go to hit the high note, bring your chin closer to your chest so-” “Like this??” You asked, pulling your head down and causing a double chin to form. Eliciting a laugh from John you brought your chin back up. “Ok I will try it.” You gave in. John gave you a nod and smile, before stepping away to give you space to perform. As the music played you felt your nerves tense up, each verse you sang causing you to get more anxious. Taking a deep breath you began the final verse. As you sang the note you dropped your chin slightly, praying that it would work. As your voice hit the note your face broke in to a huge smile and felt your entire body flood with relief as you finished the song. Once it was over, you spun around towards John. Running towards him you jumped into his arms. He gave you a hug before setting you back down. “I did it! I freaking did it!” You smiled, giving an excited hop, before embracing him again. You heard a throat clear, causing your eyes to snap open. Standing in front of you was Luke and the other boys. “It’s time for us to warm up,” Luke spat, eying Josh who was now looking extremely tense. You of course had told Josh everything that happened with Luke when you had last seen him and you knew just how pissed he was at him. “So could you move whatever THIS is, out of our way?” He said motioning to you and Josh, a disgusted tone in his voice, jaw muscles tensing. Rolling your eyes, you pushed past him, off stage, dragging Josh with you in order to avoid any confrontation between the two of them. “I’m pretty sure he was jealous.” Josh said, once out of ear shot. “Be careful. He doesn’t seem to be the nicest of guys and I won’t always be there to protect you when he’s being a dick.” “I’ll be fine, J” you reassured him, laughing at the fact that he saw himself as your protector against Luke, the 6ft, broad-shouldered teddybear who physically wouldn’t even hurt a fly, although emotionally he could tear you apart. “Are you sure?” You nodded, giving him a smile. “Ok well I gotta go find the rest of the guys, but please be careful.” He gave you one last hug before leaving you alone with your thoughts. Luke couldn’t be jealous. He was the one who cheated on you. But what if he was? It’s not like he ever bothered to listen to your story about meeting Josh or anything after that, for that matter. So it’s not like he knew you were friends with him. Maybe this was a good thing, maybe this could work to your advantage. A smirk spread slowly across your lips. This was going to be a fun few weeks. Maybe you weren’t as ok as you thought, but then again, apparently neither was Luke.
