I forced back my tears and stood up. "I'm going to change." I said, trying my best to keep my voice from cracking. Alex got on to his feet and placed his hand on my shoulder. "I have to get ready for that damn party. It is gonna be a lot if fun." I said sarcastically. Alex chuckled behind me and gave me a friendly slap.
"Are you okay?" Alex asked after a few seconds.
I gave him a small smile. "I'm strong Alex." I said. "I'm not that weak little girl I once was. I'm stronger. So, you don't have to worry about me."
Alex gave me a small smile and walked out. "So, get ready for that wonderful party. " Alex said, peeping inside. "Dad may even introduce you to some son of one of his partners. I can feel that something really fun is gonna happen tonight." I threw my shoe at him. He pulled back his head, laughing.
I shook my head and pulled open my wardrobe. I stared at my clothes. I pulled out a pair of jeans and a tight top just before my mother entered the room.
"Aud.. I mean Zena, I brought you a dress." She said, pulling out a gift box.
She handed it to me and I took it. I opened it to reveal a shiny costume. I pulled it out and groaned. "Mom, I'm NOT going to wear this." I said firmly, eying the fabric in disgust. It was a red colour off shoulder dress that I assumed would reach my knees. Gold colour sparkly dust was sprinkled over it.
"You are wearing it." Mom said in an equal firm voice.
"Or do you want to wear that cute short dress I bought?"
"Hell, NO!" I shrieked, remembering the really short and sparkly dress she was talking about. "This thing will do."
Mother grinned victoriously as I stormed in to the washroom to have a shower."Woah! Zena! You look beautiful!" Alex said with a smirk as I walked down the steps. I rolled my eyes and flipped back my hair. I was wearing that damn dress and a pair of red high heels. My dark hair that usually was in waves, now was in curls. I didn't put much make up. Just some lipstick.
"Of course I do." I said. "Just born looks, asshole."
Alex scoffed but went silent as I glared at him.
He offered me his hand in gentle manly way. I smirked and took his hand.
"You look beautiful, Zena." My mother said giving me a hug. I stiffened at her touch and sighed in relief as she pulled away.We all drove to the house of father's business partner in father's car.
His house was pretty much a mansion. As we entered the house , I saw that many people were there.
"Richard," A man who seemed to be around my father's age, with dark hair and grey eyes, said as he made his way toward us. "I'm glad that you made it."
My father beamed and shook hands with him. "Gerald," he said.
"Meet my wife Alice, my son Alexander and my daughter Audrey." He added , nodding toward us. I scowled at the name Audrey.
"Zena." I said in a firm voice. "My name is Zena, sir." I added with a small smile.
Mr. Gerald laughed.
"Zena that will be,my dear." He said. "And please, call me Gerald." He shook hands with me and then with mother and Alex.
A woman with strawberry blond hair approached us. She beamed at us.
"Ah! Everyone, meet my wife, Brenda. " Gerald said. "Brenda, this is Mr. Richard Adams and his family."
After introductions were made, father and Gerald left us with Brenda, to talk about their business. My mother and Brenda went with them, asking us to have fun.I and Alex decided to have a drink. We were peacefully sipping our drinks when Brenda came to us.
"Children, I want you to meet my son." She said, beaming.
"We'd love to, Brenda." I said with a small smile. Alex nodded.
"He'd be here any moment." She said. "Ah! There he is! Come here, you silly boy." She waved her arms in the air, frantically.
I took another sip from my lemonade and turned to look at her son.
A tall guy with dark hair, who was in a full suit approached us. He had an annoyed look on his face and it turned in to a look of pure shock as his eyes fell on us.
"Dearies, this is my son Lyzender and Lyzender these are your father's business partner's children, Zena and Alexander." She said.
I choked on my drink as I saw dear Lyzender Dunbar. What the hell?
My eyes widened and my jaw dropped a little. "You?" I gasped.
"You?" He mirrored my expression.
I was pulled out of my shocked state by an angry voice.
"LYZENDER DUNBAR!" Alex roared. I almost flinched at his tone. Dear god! He sounded pissed.
I stole a glance at my brother who had a murderous look. His fists were clenched at his sides and his jaw was also clenched.
