Chapter Forty: yea... I used to work here...

He looks at me with an amused look, "hate to break it to you... but you are not the most valuable player in this game...".

"then who is?" I ask with an eyebrow raised.

"who do you think?", Nikola asks amused.

"Carla?" I suggest.

"no try again", he says

"Bates?" I suggest.

"no" he says rubbing his head.

"don't tell me it's Barney?", I say with a laugh.

"it's not Barney... Max... it's Max..." he says shaking my shoulders.

"Max? But he's on Robins side..." I ask him confused.

"for now...", he says looking at the machine closely for something.

"what's that supposed to mean?", I ask walking over to him.

He looks up at me, "look let's just complete this part of the plan then you can ask all the questions you like..." he says before looking back at the machine.

"why do we need to do this here?, and what's this?", I ask gesturing to the machine in front of us.

"because the orginsation as technology that will stop the power going out... this technology..." he's says gesturing to the machine, "remember we talked about the power plant and the power not going out..."

I smirk "yea... it was 5minutes a go".

He laughs "anyway... they have a secure network that's stops the power in Eternia Heights going out,"

"why?", I ask like I'm a little kid.

He is visibly getting more annoyed with my constant questions "so they can always be in communication with each other... plus they never know when they are going to need their mind contol tech...".

"yea you mentioned that before?", I ask curiously.

"no time to go into it..." he says exasperated.

I decide to ask another question, "why do I have a feeling you been here before?"

He looks down with a guilty look on his face... "yea... I used to work here...".

"you did??" I slightly yell to my surprise.

He laughs slightly at my reaction "who do you think invented the network... that's stops the power going out..." he says as he makes electricity dance over his hands.

"whoah..." I say looking back up at the machine... which I'm guessing is what controls the network Nikola invented.

He looks at the machine as well "my last day here I tried using my powers to blow up the network... it wasn't enough... I almost collapsed...".

I realise now why he needs me, "but I can boost you powers... stop you collapsing...".

"yea..." he says looking at me guilty.

"let's get to this..." I say excited, and ready to help.

"yea..." he says hesitantly.

"what's with the hesitation?" I ask him confused.

"nothing just... are you sure you want to do this? Are you sure you can do this... use you powers to this extent I mean?" He says looking between me and the machine.

"well I think soo... I want know unless I try right?" I say with a small smile.

"right..." he says returning my small smile.

"so what do we need to do?" I ask him.

He looks at me, "just do what you normally do when you boost someone's powers...".

"ok Uhh... I never done it before..." I say nervously.

"WHAT!", he slightly yells.

"I just... do it by accident usually..." I admit.

"uhhh ok then..." he says nervously with the electricity dancing around his hands becoming more powerful.

He looks at his hands in surprise, "well I think your doing to now..." he says with a chuckle.

"cool..." I say quietly.

"just forcus on whatever your feeling and hieghten it..." he says as he makes his way over the machine and puts his hands on it.

"sounds easy enough", I say, I close my eyes and focus on the feeling of electricity around me and try to make it stronger.

I open my eyes to see the electricity glowing brighter and the lights in the room flickering.

I feel something on my upper lip and a drop on the floor... that looks like blood? Is my nose bleeding?

Nikola notices "you ok kid?"

"yep" I say as I wipe my nose.

"ok..." he says as he turns back to the machine.

All the lights go out and not just in the room.., the screen next to the machine showing the cities power show it's gone off.

I go to walk over to Nikola and stumble slightly. I feel like I'm going to faint... I fell myself falling but only to be caught by Nikola.

"I'm fine... just tired" to reasure him, as he helps me stand up.

"it worked anyway" he says as helps me get steady on my feet.

With my lack of energy the only response I can muster is a weak thumbs up.

I hear the door to the room open and footsteps walking toward us

"Hold it there", a guard says pointing a gun at us.

Nikola whispers to me, "when I say run... run...".

"what?" I whisper back confused.

Nikola puts his hands up above his head, "now can't we just handle this like gentlemen?", he says as he walks closer to the guard. Electricity starts dancing around his fingers... as he punches the guard unconscious.

"RUN!", he yells. And that's what I do... run... I don't look behind me, in till we are far enough away from the building for it to be safe.

"ok dude that was awesome... that punch..." I stop taking as I realise there no one there with me...

What happened to Nikola?

Indeed what did happen to Nikola...

... he just got captured my guards as they were running out and EF didn't notice as he was too busy running.

So yea
