Chapter 16: Apology

_JACKIE_

"We are sorry Chief" me and Yoongi both apologized in unison. The chief was pacing along the office with a stern look on his face. He seemed neither angry, nor calm and that scared us even more. We couldn't decipher his current emotions and I was very unsure if he was gonna embrace us or exterminate us.

"Jacklyn Rosalind Blue and Min Yoongi" my heart started beating faster at how he called our full names with an extremely bold voice. People generally do that when they are angry.

Damn it.

"You two broke several rules in this mission. You didn't obey my orders and sneaked out. You got your identities compromised and even got injured. But ultimately, you came back safe and sound and that's what is important. So let's not stay in the past and move on. Tell me, what did you find out about Daniel?"

Chief's words left us speechless. Wasn't he angry with us? Wasn't he going to scold us? Wasn't he going to punish us?

I blinked quite a few times as it helped me to come back to the reality. I knew that Yoongi wasn't going to initiate any conversation on his own so I did.

"I have some blueprints with me that I stole from Daniel's lab. I'll get those right away" saying so, I staggered out of the office and proceeded towards my tent with the intentions of fetching the papers. I wanted to show him what I discovered about Daniel's hypnotizing plans as soon as possible.

_YOONGI_

I stared at Jackie with pleading eyes as she walked out of the office. I wanted her to understand my situation and stay back but she didn't even look back once. She just left me alone with the chief. What was I supposed to do now?

I didn't talk to him ever since our big fight. And the fact that he tried to talk to me but I ignored him made things even worse. Now that I'm hypothetically locked with him alone in a room, should I talk to him? Should I not?

"Chie-"

"Da-"

Why couldn't I just get through this? Fortunately, he didn't notice my hesitation as he sat on his desk chair with his head down low. I finally gathered enough courage and walked up to him.

"Dad, I am sorry" I announced, not so boldly. He looked up to me, a tint of surprise evident in his eyes.

"It's okay Yoongi, I already forgave you for breaking the rules. You came home safe, that's what's important" he said nonchalantly.

"Not that dad. I am sorry for upsetting you. I was rude that day when I said you don't love me. You-" my mouth didn't get the chance to complete the sentence as my father started talking. He didn't even let me finish my explanation.

"Are you really sorry Yoongi? Or you're just saying so for the sake of it?" he enquired with a cold tone.

"Dad I-"

"I know you, you are not sorry. You don't even know what you did wrong" he scoffed illogically an my heart was left shattered. I was here, trying to mend our relationship and cut the distance between us but there he was, pushing me further away.

"You know what, you are right. I don't understand my mistake because I didn't have any" I snapped at him and quickly ran out of the room.
