I would've never expected hearing anything like that from Ace. He didn't seem like that kind of person, but I guess that explains why it seemed so hard for him to say it.

He looked deeply into my eyes. "(y/n)... I know that I'm just a lowly pirate compared to you, but... I just couldn't not tell you how I feel. I understand if you don't want anything to do with me anymore..."

After everything he said, I was filled with so many different emotions, including anger. I slapped him. He immediately put his hand to his now swollen cheek while he looked at me stunned by what I just did. "You care about me..? If that is true, then stop talking shit about yourself! How do you think that makes me feel, huh? I care about you too! You're one of the most amazing people I've ever met! And no matter what happens, I would never want you out of my life!!"

Apparently tears started filling my eyes, which I didn't notice until Ace was wiping them away. The warmth of his hands felt so wonderful. Then he brought me into a hug. "I'm sorry (y/n)... If that's how you truly feel, then... If you'll let me... I'll stay by your side forever."

I pushed him away, just enough to see his face. "Do you mean it..?" He nodded. "It's a promise!"

This time I hugged him instead, and also gave him a kiss on the cheek. "Thank you!"

Flustered, he added another question. "A... Also I'd like to join your crew, if the offer still stands?"

I giggled. "Of course it does!"

For the rest of the night we just talked and enjoyed both each others company and the beautiful and calming scenery.

Erza's point of view

When we woke up, (y/n) and Ace were both missing. Dadan told us that Ace used to always take off like that, so it was his normal behavior, and as for (y/n). She probably either just couldn't sleep and started wandering about or she went with Ace. So we weren't that worried about those two.

Instead we helped out the nice people who let us stay with them in any way we could, which mostly included cleaning and repairing some things.

At some point in the morning someone knocked on the door. I offered to go see who was there. "I'll get it!"

When I opened the door an old man was standing there. "Can I help you?"

He looked surprised to see me at the door. "Ummm, sure I guess. Is Dadan here? Makino told me to come here."

I smiled. "The nice woman from the bar? Did she tell you why?"

He answered the best he could, while having this sad almost mourning look in his eyes that he was obviously trying to hide. "She didn't tell me anything specific, just that I should come here. She said that it wasn't her place to tell me the reason. Whatever that means."

I started thinking. "Hmmm. Were you by any chance close to Portgas D Ace?"

He was extremely astounded by my unexpected question. "Yes... Actually. He... He was my grandson."

I smiled at the old man with a sorrowful look on his face. "In that case I might even know what she was talking about."

"Has his body been found?!"

"No... Not exactly, but the reason why she wanted you to come here is the same reason me and my friends are here."

The old man was confused now. "Is that so? I thought Dadan didn't like having kids around."

"We're actually staying here because of a mutual friend, who... Is out right now, most probably with our captain."

"Your captain..?"
