It was a sunny afternoon. The birds expressed themselves freely in the sky, sweet fragrant traveled with the wind and the cool breeze accompanied the car as Bridget and her fiancé, Louis journeyed to see all that nature had to offer.
Bridget sang along with the music playing in the car radio, partially dancing and playing with Louis's hair while occasionally yelling song lyrics in his ear.
He turned to her and smiled, giving her a light kiss on her lips and returning his eyes back on the road almost immediately.
A nearby ring on Bridget's phone interrupted the happy moment.
"It's Amanda." she yelled ecstatically to Louis, picking up the phone with one hand and tuning down the car radio with the other hand. "Hey sweet, what's up?" She answered in a friendly manner.
It's been a long time since Bridget last saw her friend, Amanda. And understanding the nature of her friend's job, Bridget learnt to not scold Amanda much for not coming over to visit. They've best friends for aeons— more than that, to Bridget, Amanda was a sister.
Being an only child wasn't always fun for Bridget growing up but things changed when her father introduced a family who he had helped secure an apartment next door. Both families instantly became close and both girls friendship took shape. No doubt, being friends with Amanda wasn't easy at first growing up. Amanda was mean, stubborn and quite the temper which started after the death of her mother.
Bridget assumed those behaviors was Amanda's way of shielding herself from the pain and seeing how lost she was, Bridget tried her best to be there for her as a friend, big sister and defender.
Remembering how back in highschool, she and Elena, their other friend, protected Amanda from an half-witted quarterback with good looks and an empty brain who had no intentions of reciprocating Amanda's feelings for him but rather, betting with his other teammates on ridiculing and assaulting her, just as he did to other girls at their school. It wasn't a fun experience thinking about it, especially the part where the decision she made with Elena caused Amanda the opportunity of ever meeting the guy that truly loved her, the one behind the letters.
But it's been eight years since then and their relationship had only grown tighter.
"What are you doing?" Amanda asked
"I'm going sight seeing with Louis. Why?" Her curiosity peaked, she looked toward Louis, whose eyes still focused on the road.
"I need an apartment." Amanda's voice held a no-nonsense inflection that countered the seriousness of that particular information bomb.
