~Maeve's POV~

I came out from behind the bleachers, thinking that I should probably get Jase now that Luke was gone, since it was pretty late now. I'd wasted like twenty minutes just hiding out behind the bleachers.

My presence was quickly noticed when I walked onto the field, as I was the only girl among them all. The guys stopped cheering and hollering when they all began to notice me, parting like the red sea as I walked up to them. It was pretty obvious that the only reason I'd ever come out here to them was for my brother, so they parted to let me through to him.

Nicolai and Jase stopped wrestling in the grass, the two of them glancing up at me when they saw me there. Jase shoved Nicolai off and sat up, brushing the grass off of himself. "Time to go already?" He asked, raising a brow up at me. I just nodded, not planning on saying anything, and waited for him to get up so we could go. Being out here with them longer than necessary, namely Nicolai, didn't sound very ideal.

"There's Maeve-y." Nicolai drawled as he stood up off of the ground, dusting the grass off of his clothes. I glanced over at him and crossed my arms over my chest, remaining quiet. He smirked and I just scoffed, looking back at Jase as annoyance creeped its way up my spine. "Can we go now or what?" I asked with some attitude, not liking the way Nicolai was looking at me. Jase rolled his eyes and got up off the grass, looking down at me. "Yeah, whatever." He sighed, clearly upset that I had disturbed his fun. I went to turn around when Nicolai spoke again.

"Where are you off to in such a hurry, baby?" He asked, the familiar nickname making me freeze. I used to love it when he'd call me that, back when we were dating, but now it sounded mocking. "I'd ask if you've got a dick appointment to get to, but I already know the answer to that." He added, laughing at his words with all of the other football players. Even my own brother joined in to laugh at my expense with them. I looked up at Nicolai for a moment, feeling utterly humiliated as my face burned hot. It was one thing to say these things to just me, but to say it in front of the entire football team and my brother? I was completely humiliated and I felt awful.

My eyes met Nicolai's and he smirked cruelly, making it rather obvious that he enjoyed humiliating me like this. "What's wrong, baby?" He hummed, stalking forward until he was in front of me. I glared up at him and then looked past him at my brother. "I'm going home now, whether you follow me or not." I said simply, not bothering to say anything else before I turned around to leave. I'd not even gotten to take a step before Nicolai was grabbing my wrist to stop me, forcing me to turn around to look at him. "Stop fucking ignoring me, Maeve." He hissed.

I smacked his hand off of me and stepped away, unable to stand being so close to him. He disgusted me now, in every way. "What do you want me to say?" I snapped back, crossing my arms over my chest. He stepped closer and then cocked his head to the side. "Tell me you're sorry." He demanded. I'd heard a lot of stupid things come out of his mouth since our break up, but this one was so stupid it caught me off guard.

Wondering if he was serious, I blinked up at him. "You want me to apologize? Why would I do that?" I laughed in his face at the sheer audacity that he had to demand me to apologize to him.

"Our breakup was your fault, Ave. You were the one always giggling at me and flouncing around in those short skirts in front of me before we were even dating, but then you won't give me your virginity when we're dating?" He scoffed, looking at me like I was the stupid one here. "No guy wants to date a girl who teases him all the time and then won't even let him fuck."

My mouth had slowly dropped open more and more until I was stood there with my mouth in a perfect 'o' as I stared at him incredulously, unable to comprehend the utter stupidity I was hearing from him. "Let me get this straight," I began, barely managing to collect myself. "You think that me wearing skirts and having a crush on you means that you should automatically get to fuck me?" I paraphrased his words, raising a brow at him. Did he hear how nonsensical he sounded saying something like that?

Nicolai sneered at my tone. "I sure fucking wish it did, because I already would have by now if it did."

I was stunned, unable to fully believe what I was hearing as I looked around at all of his football friends, who all were looking at me like they totally agreed. "You're a pig." I declared, forcing myself to look back up at him. He smiled mockingly. "And you're a teasing little prude bitch who thinks she's too good for anyone."

The circle that had formed around both of us was broken when someone came shoving their way through, mumbling for everyone to get out of the way. And to my horror, that person was Luke.

Luke's appearance was immediately noted by Nicolai, who greeted the tall boy with a smack on the arm that made Luke shoot him a slightly dirty look. "There you are, man. Fucking took you long enough, but you got here right when shit got good." Nicolai exclaimed while I tried to sneak away, but there was nowhere for me to escape to, not with the wall of football players all around me. "This is the girl I was telling ya about." Nicolai said as he turned around to me, letting Luke see me.

His blue eyes landed on me and he blinked, not expecting to see me. "This is the girl who you dumped?" He asked, glancing down at my ex. I cringed, fiddling with my fingers anxiously. "Mhm." Nicolai nodded his head and stepped away from Luke to come closer to me instead. I stepped away from him, not wanting him anywhere near me. "I'm going home." I declared, not caring if Jase heard me or followed. I walked out of the crowd and heard Nicolai laughing from behind me, the obnoxious noise echoing.

"You might've been too much of a fucking prude to give me your virginity, but at least you were good at sucking dick like a whore!" Nicolai yelled from the other side of the football field, making me halt for a second.

I had half a mind to turn around and go punch him in the face or maybe kick him in the nuts, but I knew even when he was disrespecting me by saying those things, I still couldn't do that. That just wasn't me, at all. Even so, I felt even more humiliated when the laughter of Nicolai and the entire football team followed me off the field, echoing in my head as I headed to my car without Jase.

And when I got in my car, I cried for fifteen minutes before I drove home like nothing happened.
