The Fairy Fox: Shen Yan and Lu Yin

Chapter 15

Yue Yue felt her father stop abruptly, upon hearing his exclamation she looked up to see what had startled her father so much. She saw a man in front of her and instantly felt a connection to him.

The man wasn’t looking at her though, he was looking at her daddy. The two people looked at each other as if there was no one else around and both were frozen on their spots. People around started to notice the atmosphere and suddenly slowed down too expecting to see some more drama.
This is the most entertaining the paediatrics ward has ever gotten, their lives were very dull always having to deal with sick children.
Clearly these two people seem to know each other and it appeared the feelings were very deep.

Yue Yue also stood on the side and started to feel excited. If she wasn’t mistaken this must be her other daddy! How exciting! This is the most uncomposed she had ever seen her daddy be.

The two people ignored the world and just kept on looking at each other silently. The atmosphere was broken by the opening of the door and a woman walked towards them and held Shen Yan’s arm. She was oblivious to the atmosphere, Lu Yin snapped out of the mood and looked at the hooked arm. He unconsciously frowned, realising what he was doing he quickly cleared the expression and looked at Shen Yan as if he was looking at a stranger again.

It was also at this moment that the Shen couple and everyone else caught up as well. Seeing the strange behaviour of everyone around they thought something had happened again. Spotting her parents in-law she  let go of Shen Yan’s arm and went to greet the parents warmly.
“Mom, dad! How are you? Are you okay? Yan Yan and I were so worried when we heard the news and rushed here.”

Seeing Shu Lili the couple were happy and welcomed her warmly, “It’s Lili ah, what could possibly be wrong with us. Do we not look just fine. Shen Yan why are you standing there?” It was also at this moment she realised her son was looking at someone. She followed his eyesight and saw that he seemed to be looking at this young man from earlier.

Shen Yan finally snapped out of it too and went to greet his parents.  At this moment his parents and Lu Yin were standing almost side by side. “Mom Dad, what happened?”

“Aiyah this is the problem of going to a hospital were everyone knows who you are, even you were informed. There is nothing wrong with us, we were just helping this young man…?” she wanted to point to Lu Yin only to realise the person had disappeared.

Shen Yan had tried to stay calm, looking at where his mother wanted to point he also realised that Lu Yin had left. He looked around frantically trying to spot them but couldn’t catch a sight of them. Shen Yan panicked, he had a deep seated fear of Lu Yin’s disappearances he himself was not aware of.
He let go of his mother’s hands, “Mom I’ll be right back!”

After yelling these words he had already disappeared through the door. He frantically ran to try and catch up with him. Just when he wanted to give up, he spotted Lu Yin making his way towards a car, he burst out of the hospital doors towards the parking lot. He reached them just before they could get into the car.

“Lu Yin!”

He tried catching his breath. Lu Yin had felt him coming and he slightly stiffened when he heard the call.
“Sun Jing take Yue Yue into the car.”

“Yes Sir.” She didn’t understand what was going on but she wasn’t oblivious either. Even a blind person could see that these two had history. She took Yue Yue’s hand and got into the backseat of the car to wait.

Lu Yin took Shen Yan by the hand and walked with him to a distance far from the car and prying eyes.
Yue Yue rolled down the window and peeked out wanting to test if she could possibly hear their conversation, unfortunately not. She was so excited and the big smile on her face attested to that happiness. “Jing jieji  this is so exciting!”

Seeing Yue Yue’s excited face even Sun Jing felt the heat of gossip rise in her, “Do you know that man?”
“Nope but my daddy does, they go a long waaayyy…” she stretched the way. Them not being able to hear or see didn’t dissuade their spirit for gossip, they waited in the car obediently though.

Lu Yin found a place ideal to talk and let go of Shen Yan’s hand.
“It really is you!” Seeing that it wasn’t one of his illusions Shen Yan felt a surge of anger and resentment rise in him. The person he waited for, who discarded him so resolutely was really standing in front of him in the flesh.

“I didn’t know you were in this city otherwise I wouldn’t have come.”

Lu Yin was also surprised by his own words. It felt as if his mouth did the talking before his brain could process what to say. Shen Yan snorted.

“Lu Yin you are still so cruel. Even your first words to me is that you didn’t want to see me? I must have really been a fool to think that you loved me.” Shen Yan spoke mockingly, his tone filled with a bitterness he couldn’t conceal.

To be honest those were not the first words Lu Yin had wanted to say, he had wanted to say ‘I miss you', it’s just that his mouth ran out first since his brain was hesitating.
“You’re not going to say anything?” Lu Yin looked at him silently, a lot of thoughts were going through his head, in truth he felt overwhelmed.

“You’ve already moved on with life what do you expect me to say?”

“You! Do you know how long I waited for you? Up until a month ago…no even right now I’m still waiting! You just left without saying anything, not even a word of goodbye to me, Lu Yin what did you think of me?” In the end this was the most important question he really wanted to ask, did he mean so little to him that he could leave without looking back?

“That year I was badly hurt, I couldn’t even keep my eyes open how was I to say goodbye. Besides we had already made things clear between us what more was there to say? I had transformed back to my real appearance, would you have accepted the me like that?”

“Yes! I had already accepted everything before you left. I knew what I wanted and I wanted you!” Shen Yan felt like blowing up. He just couldn’t stand it!

“I’m sorry…I was wrong.” Shen Yan was ready to yell all his grievances, he wanted to have it out with Lu Yin while he still had the chance. Who knew that this person would apologise to him so sincerely and miserably. He had never seen this vulnerable side of Lu Yin before, it’s as if he could see Lu Yin’s true heart and it shocked him. Lu Yin looked him straight in the eyes.

“That year I wasn’t thinking straight, a situation had happened, and I didn’t know what to do. I wanted to run away from it all. I couldn’t face you with everything and I was not in the right mind to accept it.”
Seeing that Lu Yin seem to want to tell him something, Shen Yan felt a trepidation in his heart.

Lu Yin paused, he hadn’t wanted to have this conversation and he wasn’t prepared to have this conversation. He didn’t think that him and Shen Yan would have this conversation... ever. The world was so big why did it always seem as if it wanted to trap him.
Lu Yin was not a person who liked to hide things, he’d rather deal with everything head on. If Shen Yan asks him right now he will tell him everything, it’s not like he could hide it nor had he ever wanted to hide it. He just never felt the need to bring it up, in that year after everything there was no time.

“What had happened, Lu Yin you tell me clearly what had happened?”

“I’m a fairy fox, a person not of this realm. Our night had consequences.” Lu Yin didn’t elaborate further, Shen Yan was still confused. What consequences?

“Her name is Qiu Yue, she is eight years old this year.”

Shen Yan had no reaction at first, it didn’t make sense to him. While slowly processing he turned to look at Lu Yin with shock. Does Lu Yin mean what I think he means? But how, we’re both men! Looking at his shocked face, Lu Yin couldn’t resist the sarcastic smirk from emerging on his lips.

“Stop placing me in the same category as you humans. We fairy foxes cultivate to ascend back to the celestial realm, I’m not human Shen Yan. I may take the appearance of one to better integrate but at my very core I am not. Isn’t this the issue you had with me? Why are you so surprised right now?”

“You…”

“I’ve said all that I needed to say, you have your life now and I’m trying to build mine now for her sake. If you want to be involved you will find a way to let me know otherwise if you can’t accept her because she has half of my blood then it’s best everything ends here and now. I’ve not told her about you but she has probably figured it out on her own.” Lu Yin turned around and left Shen Yan who was still in shock.

Seeing him coming back looking very gloomy the two at the back decided to sit up straight and behave. Lu Yin composed himself, got in the car and drove off.

It turns out you still can’t accept me Shen Yan.
