Adrianna sat in Principal Malloy's office, along with her father and Arturo. Her father was furious, she could tell because he kept firing things in Italian at them, things that even made Principal Malloy flinch, and she didn't even understand what was being said.
"Well, Mr. Vicari, they were found in the hallway, each immersed in their own physical fight."
" Ho sollevato un mucchio di animali !" He exclaimed to himself. "Luckily for Arturo here, Christopher will not be pressing charges." Arturo seemed relieved, but quickly tensed back up when their father placed a hand on his shoulder.
"I'll be pressing my own charges," he snarled. "And as for Adrianna," Principal Malloy started. Adrianna touched the tissue shoved up her nose to stop the bleeding. Aj had helped her clean it up before the bell rung and he ran off to class. She didn't know if he had forgiven her yet, but she could tell Aj wasn't the type to hold a grudge.
"She seemed to be the cause of the whole incident. It has come to my attention that there are three of the boy students here who... got into a quarrel over her."
"Three boys Adrianna?! Mio Dio! I haven't even allowed you to date yet!"
"But Daddy--", she started. He held up his hand, as he always did to dismiss the conversation. There was no arguing with him now.
"Now, North Shore has a strict no fighting policy that would usually get each of you suspended for 5 days." Adrianna almost fainted. She could not miss five days of school! Even if it was drama filled, she had to keep her perfect 4.0 gpa record. Five days would be missing alot.
"But, considering you're fairly new, to North Shore as well as California, I've decided to show a little mercy," Principal Malloy sighed. Adrianna could've gotten down on her knees and kissed her feet at that moment.
"One day suspension and a 2 hour detention on Wednesday when you get back. Let this serve as a warning."
----~~~~~~~~~~~~~~----
Mr. Vicari kept his promise. Adrianna was "grounded until further notice" which meant a pretty long time. He also took her phone, TV, laptop and even her favorite books, so she could in no way possible enjoy the jail cell of a room. And when her father learned that Arturo was only "being a good big brother" and "protecting her", all he got was a week of kitchen duty.
Adrianna's father then promptly gave both Arturo's and her allowance to Rosa right in front of their faces, while Rosa continuously pinched herself, thinking she was dreaming. "This must be a parallel universe," she giggled dazed. "And I like it!"
Now, Adrianna was locked in her room, on a Tuesday afternoon, with absolutely, positively nothing to do. She built a pillow fort, hung her head out of the window and told the uninterested birds in a nearby tree all her secrets, and even made up a poem. It went something like this:
Aj's mad
Leo's sad
Christopher is an ass!
Arturo makes me wanna faint
And who woulda known?
Rosa is a saint! She laughed, then tore the page out of her notebook, balled it up and flung it out the window. And to her suprise, she heard an "Ow!"
She quickly went over to the window and stuck her head out. There was Leo, hanging on to the gutter for dear life. "How's it going?"
"How do you know where I live?" Adrianna whisper yelled, looking behind her to check if the door was closed.
"I'll tell you in a minute. Uh, can I come in?" The gutters creaked under his weight. "Please?"
Adrianna sighed reluctantly and gave him room to crawl into her room. "Nice fort," he said, as if he didn't think it was nerdy.
"Why are you here Leo?" She asked, crawling into the pillow fort, hoping the world around her would disappear.
"Delilah-- I broke up with her," he said as if he just found out the secret to world peace. And maybe for himself he had.
"Well Woopty Doo Da! There's a Congratulations party for you just outside that window," Adrianna said in her best preppy voice.
"Im serious Adrianna. I don't know how her parents are gonna take it, but at least we can see each other in public again."
Adrianna couldn't stand the way Leo was adressing the situation, as if they were forbidden lovers and he had just slayed the dragon that was keeping them apart. If he broke up with Delilah and put his father's business on the line just to be with her, he made a big mistake.
Instead of voicing her opinions though, she just grabbed a pillow and flung it at his chest. It was like a feather to him.
"Get out."
"No." He said calmly.
"Leave me alone Leo. I hate you. I don't ever want to see you again." He didn't even flinch. "Then why did you let me in?"
She had no response. Why did she let him in? Maybe because he'd fall to his death if she didn't. Maybe.
