Thank you guys so much for commenting and voting, it really means alot to me!"Okay, did I miss something or are you both just constipated?" Asked Dodo on the Wednesday morning Adrianna got back. Aj was drawing in his notebook, not saying a word. Adrianna was staring at her black vans, hating the awkwardness.
"You missed alot Dodo," Adrianna sighed. Their group was supposed to be interacting, trying to come up with an idea for a presentation. But while every other group was talking, theirs was dead silent.
After about five more minutes of painful silence, Aj finally snapped.
"Adrianna, I need to know if you like me or not," He blurted, a little to loudly. Some people from other tables started to stare. Dodo put an invisible microphone to Adrianna's mouth.
"Aj can we talk about this later? We really need a presentation idea," Adrianna said, not looking him in the eye. "We actually need to talk about this now, or I won't be able to focus on some stupid presentation," he replied, putting down his pencil, rather forcefully.
Adrianna sighed, and finally looked up at the boy she'd kissed in her bedroom, the one who took her to his home, the one with the baby blue eyes and messy , jet black hair. Of course she liked him. Who didn't ? But, although she didn't want to admit it, she like Leo alot too. She was royally confused.
"I do like you Aj. Alot," she finally confessed. He relaxed a little. "But, I'm just all mixed up inside," she said lamely, leaning back in her seat. "Meaning?" Dodo asked bringing the "microphone" closer to her face.
"Meaning , you like Leo too." Aj finished for her. Adrianna didn't agree, but she didn't find herself protesting either. Aj ran his hand through his hair. "But he's done nothing but act like a dick to you since day one!" He exclaimed. His cheeks started to get flushed with red, which Adrianna noticed happened when he was stressed. She almost smiled at how cute it was, then she remembered the situation she was in.
"I know, but he's not who everyone thinks he is, honestly." Adrianna replied, not knowing why she was defending him. After he hopped back out of her window the day before, she crawled underneath her covers and stared at nothing, thinking about him.
"Whatever you say Adrianna, but the next time he screws you over, maybe there won't be anyone there for you."
Before Adrianna could reply, a voice on the intercom silenced the class.
"Excuse me, we need Adrianna Vicari to the office immediately."
All eyes landed on her as she gulped and gathered her things. They sounded urgent, and Adrianna thought maybe she was in trouble again. But besides the fight, she'd done nothing wrong. Right?
Usually, she had her hair to mess with when she was nervous, she'd brush it out of her face or put a little braid in it. But now, it was up in a ponytail, and she had nothing to do but play with her charm bracelet as everyone watched her leave.
"Nice rack Vicari," A guy mumbled as she passed by. His group tried to suppress their laughter as Adrianna crossed her arms over her chest and hurried out of the classroom.
In the hallway, Adrianna decided to stop by the bathroom really quickly to get a look at herself, make sure she didn't look too nervous or guilty or anything. Not that she was but... You get the point.
Inside the bathroom, Adrianna glanced in the mirror. Okay she did look nervous, and her eyes looked scared and wide. She also looked kinda young today, with her hair pulled back. She wore a floral skater dress, and of course her trusty black vans. Adrianna took a couple of deep breaths, told herself over and over agian to relax, then set off.
When she made it to the office, the same desk assistant that was there on her first day at North Shore was there, on her phone. Adrianna slowly approached the desk, not wanting to be in this office at all.
"Hi, they called me down here," Adrianna greeted the girl. She didn't even look up from her phone.
"Go on back," she replied, smacking on her gum. Adrianna did as she was told, feeling as if she was going deeper and deeper into the depths of a dungeon.
Finally, she stopped in front of a room, a room that had the dungeon keeper herself standing inside it.
Delilah.
Principal Malloy and the Guidance counsler Mr. Hart were also there, along with two impeccably dressed people Adrianna figured were Delilah's parents.
Uh oh.
"Miss Vicari, come in." It was Principal Malloy's voice, but Adrianna's eyes were glued on Delilah, who had the hugest grin plastered on her evil face.
Adrianna staggered in with her chilli legs, taking a seat in front of the desk. Then she realized she was the only one sitting, so she stood up, ever so awkwardly.
"So you're the shrewd that laid her filthy hands on my Delilah," the woman, who was polished, tall and blonde snapped at Adrianna. "Now now Diane, not the time," the man, who was obviously much older than the woman but still handsome, said.
Adrianna's mouth felt like sandpaper, but she spoke for some reason anyway. "In m-my defense, she attacked me."
The woman just huffed and raised her nose at Adrianna .
"Well, I know you are wondering why you were called here Miss Vicari," Principal Malloy finally said.
"Yeah."
"Well, Delilah's family has an offer for you. They were considering pressing charges for the fight, but Delilah convinced them otherwise."
Her? Press charges on Adrianna?
"Yes," started Delilah's father. "If you agree to expulsion from North Shore High School, no charges will be held against you."
Adrianna's mouth hung open. Expelled?! Not only would her father send her back to live with her mother, she'd have to face all the bullies at her old school without Rosa and Arturo protecting her. She'd also probably never see Aj, Leo, Dodo or any new friends she'd met in California ever again.
"But-but," Adrianna started, but was cut off. "I'll have you know that I am also the most successful lawyer in the county and will win the case if you turn down the offer. The assault will go on your permanent record and you could spend up to a year in juvenile detention."
She was at a dead end. Delilah was practically overflowing with happiness, and Adrianna felt the tears coming. She had won. And all of this over Leo, she thought bitterly. She didn't ever want to see him again, and probably never would.
"You have 24 hours to make a decision. If we hear no word from you, there will be a warrant for your arrest."
All the words were starting to fade now, and Adrianna got up to run. She had all the reason to be scared now. She also felt as if she was going to throw up.
She had made it halfway down the hall when she bumped into someone tall and toppled to the ground clumsily. Although she could've just brushed it off, she burst into tears. All it took was that one thing to send her over the edge.
The person reached down and picked her up in his arms, Adrianna realized it was Arturo. "I'll take you home," he said, not asking any questions, just leading her out of the building.
