⚠️TW: TRANSPHOBIA & SUICIDAL THOUGHTS/ACTIONS⚠️

Like I had thought, my parents were less than thrilled when the principal called them and told them I had been in a fight. I could hear yelling on the other end and flinched away from the sound. Monoma looked at me with a hint of regret, but I turned away from his gaze.

I didn't want his pity and regret wouldn't fix the damage he's caused. The principal asked us each what happened after he called our parents, starting with Monoma.

"So, what happened Monoma-Kun?" The principal asked formally.

Monoma looked at me again before starting. I thought that maybe he regretted what he did and would try to make it right by telling the truth, but I was wrong.

"Sir, we were in our usual corner and I was just reading until she came up behind me and started throwing false accusations at me. I tried to tell her to calm down, but it only made her angrier and she threw a punch at me. She got a few punches in before I finally fought back, but she knocked me out in the end."

I stared at him, surprised at the blatant lies he was spitting at the principal—our superior. Dishonesty was bad enough, but to a superior... That was even worse. The principal sends me a glare before trying to make his face impassive again.

"And your story, Kaminari-Kun?"

I can already tell, based on his closed-off body language, that he isn't going to believe anything I say. He's already chosen to believe Monoma, so saying anything would only make him think I was lying to save my skin.

"I did yell at him and I did end up knocking him out, but he threw the first punch," I say quietly, pointing to my busted lip.

His eyes show no sign that he believed what I said, so I just sat back and quit speaking. Monoma was looking at me with a knowing grin that turned into a frown and a scoff.

"I can't believe you, Daike. Lying about hurting your ex, just because I broke up with you. That is petty."

The principal tenses in his seat and turns to me, making me shrink in my seat. Did the principal seriously fall for the stuff Monoma was spewing? Anyone with eyes could see that he was lying and found this amusing, so why was the principal angry with me?

The principal stood up calmly and sighed before speaking, almost reluctantly, "Well, since the library doesn't have cameras that far back and Miss Nura only showed up after the damage was done, I can't take either of your words. It is the end of the school year and you are both great students with near-perfect records, so I'm letting you off the hook this time. But... You both will have to sit here until school is over, then Miss Nura said she would find something for you both to do during detention."

I nod and keep my mouth shut while Monoma groans and pouts like a child. The principal sends him a sympathetic look before sitting back in his chair and turning towards his computer. Tapping keys and soft breathing were the only sounds that filled the silence for the last thirty minutes of the period.

Monoma kept sending me glares like it was my fault that we were here. I might have called him a name, but he threw the first punch. Finally, the bell rang and we were dismissed to go back to the library for detention. People would usually be suspended if they got into a fight, so this was a lighter punishment than I expected.

Miss Nura was waiting at the door for us with a smile, no sign of anger or disappointment on her face. She has never been one to yell or punish anyone, so I was curious as to what she had planned for our detention.

"Monoma, you'll write me an essay on a topic of my choosing and Denki, you'll finish typing up your short story and I'll hand it to Mr. Hein for you."

"Why doesn't she have to write an essay, too?" Monoma whines.
