My alarm woke me up an hour earlier than usual, but I didn't turn it off and go back to sleep like I usually would. Today was a very important day for all aspiring heroes, myself included. The Sports Festival is today.
I was so anxious about the Festival and the person I'd be forced to spare with. It was probably going to be someone from Class 1B, which only furthered my anxiety. Sero said Monoma was in that class...
A knock at my door makes me fall off my bed with a dull thud and a pained groan. Feminine laughter filters through the thick door and I groan again, this time in embarrassment. Of course, Mina had to show up when I act stupid.
"Why are you up so early, Mina?!" I yell from my spot on the floor.
"Kami, this isn't early for me... You just wake up late."
Mina starts laughing again and I bang my head gently against the wood floor. I'm gonna be nice. I'm gonna be nice. I'm gonna—
"Kami? Did you fall back asleep?" Her voice interrupts my internal thoughts.
I've said this a lot, but I am not a morning person and it was early for me. It's only 5 am. Bracing my hands on my unmade bed, I slowly stand and make my way to my closet, ignoring Mina's constant chatter.
"You are too bubbly and excited for this early in the morning." I mumble in the direction of the door, and the girl behind it.
Today, we didn't have normal classes, so I changed right into my UA training garb—the standard blue short-sleeved shirt and slacks with red and white stripes in a neat pattern. It wasn't as cool as my hero costume, but it was comfy.
Instead of wearing my binder, I decided on a tight-fitting black sports bra. Luckily, I wasn't as endowed as my mother, so the small bump was hardly noticeable. I quickly brushed my teeth and ran my fingers through my messy spikes.
The golden spikes were still holding up and my hair looked smooth and shiny, like always. Good. I slammed my door open once I was ready, startling the girl leaning against it. She fell into my room with a thump.
A laugh bubbled up in my chest as I watched her rub her probably sore butt with a frown. She was in the same clothes as me and somehow managed to look amazing without any makeup. Mina was honestly one of the most beautiful girls I'd ever met.
"If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were checking me out."
"I'm gay." I say blankly, before slamming my hands over my mouth with wide eyes.
I hadn't meant to say that out loud, but my thoughts were even less filtered than usual when I was tired. She smiled softly and pulled my hands away from my mouth. I knew Mina wouldn't judge me, but it still scared me after everything...
"I know... And that is perfectly fine. I'm a loud and proud lesbian and no one gives me crap for it. No one will judge you either, Kami."
She pulls me into a hug that I gladly accept. Mina was the first to pull away with a big grin.
"You should pack a spare pair of clothes for after the festival."
I knew I was forgetting something... Snapping my fingers, I give her a grateful smile and dig through my closet to find some comfy clothes. I decide to just throw my Pikachu hoodie and a pair of black basketball shorts into my sports duffel.
"Okay, I need your help with my outfit."
I look over at Mina in confusion. The fashion queen was asking me for advice and I just didn't know how to take that. I'm not the most fashion-oriented. A pink slightly darker than her skin taints her cheeks.
