Heather POV
..............."Eeeewwwww! What is this stuff!?" We both stiffened at Cheyanne's shriek.
Without thinking, Annjaya and I stared at each other. Both of us thinking the same thing; What's going on?
I was the first to move. Throwing the little pixie off me and leaping up. Racing to Cheyanne's rescue.
I stopped in the doorway, trying not to laugh.
Cheyanne was covered from head to toe in some sort of goopy grey slime. Her arms held out to her sides. Looking like a wet cat. When we met eyes, her face lit up as she flashed me a thumbs up.
"I'm okay, but..." She folded her arms and gazed around. A slight frown on her face. "Where are we?"
"Okay. Isn't this a bit cliched?" I mirrored her.
Where the hell were we? We were definitely not in Kansas anymore. Nor in our own city.
Large and ancient trees surrounded us. Oaks, maples, aspens, willows, and some evergreens jutted out of the ground where our neighbours houses were supposed to be.
Thick white mist wafted gently inches off the ground. Resembling a fluffy blanket as it flowed around our feet.
And then there was the bright green and royal purple leafy vine. It wrapped around an oak branch above Cheyanne. Little droplets of the grey ooze dripped from the tip of its stem as it swayed back and forth.
"Oh yikes..." Annjaya followed me out the door. Her hands were on her hips as she hesitated. "What are we doin' here...?"
"Wherever here was, I'd like to know the answer to that too..." I muttered.
Cheyanne was wiping herself off with her hoodie like a towel. The white tank under was still unblemished from the slimy vine sap. "Yeah..." She agreed.
We all froze at the fluttering of wings.
"Welcome, partner to the fey. What brings you here this day?"
A rhyming... bat...?
Sure enough, a large black bat came flying out of the trees. It landed on the vine upside down and relaxed.
"You are the one we were looking for."
"Nope! I am not going on a fairytale quest!" I said turning around to go back inside. Earning me a giggle and an ugh from the other two.
"Well, isn't why you were brought here? To the outskirts of Avalon?"
I froze. I was brought here? Why? I turned back toward the giant creature.
"I honestly don't know." I shrugged. "But I do know, I am so not going on a fairytale quest."
The bat spread out his wings. His beady black eyes turned red and then purple, and finally to a bright blue.
I had to shield my eyes. They glowed so bright, it was almost like looking into twin suns.
"If thou wants to find thy loved one. Then thou must find a way to the dragons keep. But thou must find her before the Aphrodite's moon is done. Lest you lose her once and for all."
And then it flew off.
"Wait...!" I reached out for the rapidly disappearing bat. And then he was gone. Fading away into the dark mists of the forest.
How was I going to do something like that? Me, fight a dragon? There was no way!
"I'm not fighting no dragon!" Annjaya said behind me.
