Heather POV

So that's the queen of the pixies? She's kind of beautiful in an arrogant sort of way.

I ignored Annjaya and stood up by myself. The pain in my right side had lowered to a mild thrumming and I could walk, even if it was just a bit.

And without thinking, I went to her. That pixie woman.

"I'm sorry, Your Highness but why are you here?" I dipped my head in respect to her as I asked my question.

Instead of answering me, she wrenched my face up to look me in the eyes. They were like twin pools of lava amidst a swirling darkness. And seemed to be staring right into my soul.

"You are not a pixie?"

"No ma'am."

"But you are Shin's daughter. Am I correct?"

"Yes ma'am."

How did she know Shin?

She stared at me for some more time without saying anything.

I was about to ask my question again. But as soon as I opened my mouth, screams erupted from it.

A sudden pain came from where my injured wing was. It radiated downward along my body and paralyzed me. Dropping me to the ground.

I can't breathe! The pain was near unbearable and knocked my breath from me. It was like I had been punched in the gut.

"I have the power to take away your pain and to give you pain."

I could barely hear her condescending voice. It sounded so far away. But at the same time, the pain went away and my wing was restored. A shimmering light emanated from the wounded spot and healed the broken wing.

I looked up at her and wiped the sweat from my eyes.

She folded her arms and was wearing a haughty expression. Her nose in the air and eyes narrowed though she was frowning. It didn't give me a clear reading on her expression.

"You have killed one of my children. And even now your fathers name cannot save you."

"Aaaaaaaaah!" I reared back and screamed again as the healed wing disintegrated. Disappearing in the wind like the ashes from a flame.

I went to my hands. Shaking as the new sweat poured from my brow.

"Your majesty!" Annjaya was beside me. With one arm over my back and the other in the dirt, she glared up at the woman. "Please stop hurting her."

The pain disappeared.

"That girl killed one of my people. And," She pressed a finger to her lips. "What's that term humans use for revenge? Oh yes!"

I didn't like that smug grin on her face as she leaned over and pulled my face back up to hers as she whispered in my ear. "An eye for an eye. A tooth for a tooth. A life for a life."

A cold chill ran through my body. She meant to kill me!

And then I screamed again as Annjaya was blasted away from me.

And then no pain.

I barely had time to catch my breath before a new wave of pain ran through me. This time my whole body was wracked with pain. The very nerves and atoms screaming in agony.

How long this went on, I don't know. I lost count at the seventh time she destroyed my wings.

And by this time, I was nearly senseless.
