My lungs hurt! I can't breathe!
I sat up with a gasp, desperate for air. My lungs burning as if I had been under water for some time.
Where am I?
My eyes wildly flew around the room. My room!? This was my room! The one I was most familiar with.
"Waaaaah! Oomph!"
My body, unable to hold itself up anymore went flying off the bed.
"Ow!"
"Yay! She's awake! My human crony is awake!" Suddenly a familiar pixie girl grabbed onto me. Her arms going around my neck as she breathed a sigh of relief. "And still very much human..."
"Annie...?"
"Mmhmm." She nodded vigorously.
"The little one was by your side most of the time." The male pixie appeared. His smile was warm and gentle as he patted me on the head. "It's good that you are still human. I can't imagine how you would have turned out as a true pixie."
"True pixie?"
"A creature from the darkest depths of Unseelie. Not one of the fey creatures. They are born of dark emotions."
"I... See..."
Unseelie? That grey place? The bad place?
"Yeah." Annjaya agreed. "That place is no good."
"Speaking of which..." I pulled Annie in close. "Thank you."
"Um..." Her dark steel blue skin flushed a deep purple as she looked away.
"You should eat something." The male pixie walked back into the room with a plate of greenish noodles.
"Eat."
"Alright."
I did as he asked and ate all the food. It tasted faintly of cabbage, but also something rich and earthy. It was nourishing if at all a little odd. I've never seen green noodles like these. They looked like tiny vines.
As I ate, I looked at Annjaya. She wasn't doing much, just laying on the bed with her feet dangling off and kicking out rhythmically. Meanwhile I was still on the floor. Which wasn't bad. Eating in bed leads to sleeping on crumbs.
"Annie?" I asked between bites. "What happened while I was, erm, asleep?"
"Hmm?" She sat up and leaned forward. "Letsee, you were brought back here. That girl Cheyanne was here. And then Shin put you in bed."
"Shin?"
"Mmhmm, the male pixie that brought you back here."
"Ah, anyway..."
"You were brought back and kept going in and out of a dream state. Your body was so hot to the touch. And I may have..." She leaned forward with a shy expression and light blush on her face. "...Have put a spell on you to make you sleep."
"And do you remember anything?"
"Hmm?" Her face scrunched up in concern. "Whaddya mean?"
"Mmh, it's nothing." I shook my head and continued to eat.
The male pixie, Shin, wasn't in the room and I had no idea where he went.
It was just us two girls.
"Annie?"
"Mmh?"
"Will you help me get Hopea back?"
