Hopea POV
...............Something jolted me out of sleep. A coolness crawling down my spine.
"Mmh?" I opened my eyes as I sat up and looked around.
I was back in my room and under soft blankets. The window was open, letting in the soft scents of the flowers in the garden.
The air turned cold and it was dark. So dark the moon wouldn't shine in the window. Everything seemed calm.
"Hello little one." A black formless shadow appeared from the ground. It came from the very shadows themselves. "I've been watching you, and your fear is delicious."
"A, a pixie?" I pulled the blanket closer to me. The skin on my back crawled at it's look.
"Correct, little one." It's voice was soothing. Lulling even. Was it bad?
"What do you want with me?"
"I want to eat your fear, pain, misery, and you."
Eat me!? But I wasn't human! Pixies didn't eat fairies, did they?
It sidled up to me and got on the bed, pinning me down. My heart raced as it's formless face came closer. I could see through it's huge Cheshire smile to the window behind it.
"Help..." I whispered. I couldn't move. Red filled my vision. Bright red and slitted eyes. Eyes that pulled me in like a moth to a flame.
That same chill from before creeped up within me and froze my blood.
"A pixie gets what a pixie wants. And you have the most beautiful type of energy." It chuckled, rubbing a corpse cold hand down my cheek. "You know the pain of betrayal."
"I do?"
"Of course, you were betrayed by one closest to you."
"My mother?"
"Yes, and I can take that pain away."
"How?"
It's face came closer. "Kiss me."
"No!" I tried to move. Scramble away from it.
Why me!? Why now!?
In fear, I unsheathed my wings. I wanted to fly. To get away from the creature.
There was a loud yowling meow and then the creature screamed. Arching it's back as four long gashes ripped into its side. Smoke poured from the wounds as it gnashed it's teeth and glared down at me.
And then everything went white. I knew nothing but blinding pain. The scream erupted from somewhere far away. The screaming wouldn't stop. It was an echo. Almost like whoever was screaming was above water while I was under it.
"Moooooooommmmy!" I reached out for the vision in the darkness. She turned to me with a smile and then was gone. Melting into the darkness with tears in her eyes as she reached out for me.
I couldn't move as my body went limp. Flopping to the bed as my eyes closed.
And then everything went dark. The pain disappeared. The creature disappeared. Even the screaming was all gone.
...............
I woke up with a gasp. Though the only thing I could do was open my eyes.
Everything hurt. And even the simple task of opening my eyes was met with a stinging sensation.
There was a heavy weight on my body. Pressing down, but it wasn't painful.
